Nintendo Switch 2 Has 6 Big Games Releasing in December 2025

Owners of the Nintendo Switch 2 have six new games to look forward to very soon. The first six months for the Switch 2 have been quite busy, with Nintendo successfully launching the console despite some trade challenges. A great selection of games, including the popular Mario Kart World, helped make the launch a hit.

Nintendo didn’t waste any time after the successful launch of the Switch 2, releasing Donkey Kong Bananza just a month later. The game was a critical hit, becoming the highest-rated exclusive title for the new system. DK Bananza’s quality was further recognized with a Game of the Year nomination at The Game Awards 2025, cementing its place as a must-play game for Switch 2 owners.

Since its launch, the Switch 2 has received several new first-party games from Nintendo, including Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment and Kirby Air Riders, both released last month. The system’s game selection has also grown with “Switch 2 Edition” titles, like Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Fans have even more to look forward to this year, as six new games are scheduled to launch next week in December.

Two major games are coming to the Switch 2: the cooperative beat ’em up Marvel Cosmic Invasion on December 1st, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows on December 2nd. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the newest open-world installment in the popular Assassin’s Creed series, and it’s finally set in Japan – a location fans have requested for years. Despite some controversy, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has received positive reviews, and if it performs well on the Switch 2, it should be a fantastic game for the console.

Okay, so it’s HUGE news for Switch 2 owners! Not only are we getting Assassin’s Creed Shadows on launch day, but Red Dead Redemption is finally coming to the system as a proper, native port! It’s going to be amazing to experience that open-world western with some enhancements!

December 2nd will be a big day for Nintendo Switch 2 with the releases of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Red Dead Redemption, but December 4th will be even more packed. On that day, Switch 2 players can look forward to Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Octopath Traveler 0, and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is a highly-rated game with excellent user reviews and is also up for awards at The Game Awards for Best Family Game and Best Sports/Racing Game.

Man, it feels like forever ago that Nintendo first announced Metroid Prime 4: Beyond for the original Switch back in 2017! They actually ended up ditching that version and started completely over with Retro Studios in 2019. Now, the version coming on the Switch 2 is looking way better – it runs a lot smoother and they’ve even added mouse support! Honestly, it seems like the Switch 2 is going to be the best way to play Metroid Prime 4, and I’m really hyped to see the final product.

Switch 2 Games Coming in 2026

While we don’t have a complete list yet, the Switch 2 is already shaping up to have a great 2026! A new version of Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be available on January 15th, followed by Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade a week later on January 22nd. February will bring even more titles, including Nintendo’s Mario Tennis Fever and the exciting survival-horror game Resident Evil Requiem from Capcom.

Several exciting games, including Pokemon Pokopia, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, are scheduled to launch on the Switch 2 in 2026. Nintendo appears determined to maintain the success of the Switch with these new releases.
