Electronic Arts (EA) has announced it will be taking at least four games offline in 2026, and based on past behavior, we can expect many more to follow. EA regularly shuts down games, particularly its sports titles, when the licenses for those games expire. This means the games are removed from sale and their online servers are closed, though occasionally other EA games are also discontinued.
Electronic Arts (EA) is removing 23 games in 2025, including popular titles like The Simpsons: Tapped Out and the sports game NCAA Football 14. They’ve also begun announcing games that will be removed in 2026, with three confirmed for removal in January and one more in March.
EA is ending online support for several games in the coming months. First, Anthem goes offline on January 12th, followed by The Sims Mobile on January 24th, and NBA Live 19 on January 30th. Finally, the long-running mobile game Real Racing 3 will be discontinued on March 19th.
List of EA Games Shutting Down in 2026 (So Far)
- Anthem – January 12
- The Sims Mobile – January 24
- NBA Live 19 – January 30
- Real Racing 3 – March 19
Several EA games are scheduled to stop working in 2026, and they vary quite a bit. Anthem was BioWare’s try at a constantly-updated shooting game, but it wasn’t successful from the start. Though there were efforts to fix it, those bigger plans were cancelled, and the game is now nearing its end. The Sims Mobile is simply a version of The Sims designed for phones. While it’s disappointing that The Sims Mobile is being discontinued, at least players will still be able to play it without an internet connection, which isn’t always the case with EA’s mobile games when they shut down.
With the servers for NBA Live 19 shutting down, EA is effectively out of the basketball video game business, meaning no EA basketball games will be playable online. While there’s been some talk about a possible EA college basketball game, it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon. Recent reports suggest EA isn’t pursuing a college basketball game at all, as 2K Sports has already secured licensing deals with many major universities for their own college basketball title. However, the situation remains subject to change, so fans will have to wait for official confirmation.
The closure of Real Racing 3 is particularly upsetting for many players. After more than ten years, the game has built a loyal fanbase who will be disappointed to see it go. While the shutdown isn’t until March 19th, it’s still a tough loss for those who have enjoyed playing for years.
EA is Removing a Game from EA Play in 2026
In addition to closing four other games, EA has announced that Madden NFL 24 will be removed from the EA Play service this year. Madden NFL 24 will no longer be available through EA Play Pro or the EA Play List starting February 17th, which often precedes a game being completely shut down. While EA hasn’t announced a specific date yet, players can expect Madden NFL 24 to eventually be removed from digital stores before the servers are turned off.
