For decades, people of all ages have loved the incredible world of Pokémon. Starting with the original games in the late 1990s, Pokémon has grown beyond just those games to include spin-off titles, comics, and a popular anime series that many around the world grew up with.

Charizard is one of the most well-known and long-running Pokémon, and while it’s a rare find, it’s often featured with skilled Trainers in the animated series. Certain Trainers, however, have truly become famous because of their strong partnerships with their Fire and Flying-type Charizard Pokémon.

In the Pokémon Chronicles series, Trainer Casey meets Corey Demario, who is featured in the episode “Those Darn Electabuzz!”. Casey is a devoted fan of Corey because he used to be a famous player on the Electabuzz baseball team. He stopped playing after hurting his shoulder, but it’s later discovered that his shoulder has healed. Despite this, Corey is hesitant to return to baseball, seemingly afraid of playing again.

Benny is looking after a Charizard named Don, who used to belong to his brother, Corey. Don, much like Corey, struggles with self-doubt and is afraid to fly or use his fire powers. Luckily, Casey is there to encourage both Benny and Don, helping them work towards their goals. Eventually, Corey returns to playing baseball, and Don overcomes his fear, soaring through the air as Corey regains his success.

During his travels through the Hoenn region and beyond, Ash made many new Pokémon companions, like Grovyle, Swellow, and Torkoal. As his Pokémon team improved, Ash entered the Ever Grande Conference, where he faced tough trainers, including one named Clark. Known as “The Conductor,” Clark uniquely directed his Pokémon’s battles using a baton, often focusing on Fire-type attacks.

Clark’s team included both a Quilava and a Charizard. These two Fire-type Pokémon battled Ash’s Grovyle and Glalie in a double match, but they were at a significant disadvantage. While Grovyle defeated Quilava, Charizard managed to beat Grovyle using its Fire and Flying-type attacks. Unfortunately, Glalie later won against Charizard by confusing it with Ice-type moves.

In Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, the player starts an adventure with a rival and three new trainers. One of these is Trevor, a young photographer from Lumiose City. Like Gym Leader Viola, Trevor enjoys taking pictures, but his main goal is to complete his Pokédex quickly. To do this, he travels around to find and document as many different Pokémon as possible.

In the anime series, Trevor is given a Charmander by Professor Sycamore, which becomes his partner Pokémon. As Charmander evolved into Charmeleon, it became increasingly energetic and somewhat aggressive. Fortunately, this aggression disappeared when it further evolved into Charizard, though it remained a powerful and determined fighter. Later on, Trevor obtains a Key Stone and Charizardite Y, enabling his Charizard to Mega Evolve into Mega Charizard Y.

Deep within the Johto region lies Charicific Valley, a famous canyon and home to many Charizard. Some Charizard visit to train and become stronger, while others live there permanently, dedicated to protecting the valley. One of these permanent residents is Charla, a female Charizard who teams up with her Trainer, Liza. Liza is a determined and driven Trainer who believes that a Pokémon’s strength comes from a strong, respectful bond with its Trainer.

Liza not only trained Charla and other Charizard, but she also temporarily looked after Ash’s Charizard. After realizing he wasn’t as strong as the Charizard living in the valley, Ash’s Charizard stayed with Liza to train and improve. While with her, he learned new moves and gained better control over his fire powers. He always remembered and remained friends with both Liza and Charla.

In the Generation VII Pokémon games, Kiawe leads the trial at Wela Volcano Park on Akala Island. As you’d expect from that location, he uses Fire-type Pokémon. However, in the Pokémon anime, Kiawe is a student at Pokémon School on Melemele Island, which Ash also attends while in the Alola region. Similar to his portrayal in the games and manga, Kiawe continues to specialize in Fire-type Pokémon.

Kiawe’s main Pokémon partners are Turtonator and Marowak. He also has a Charizard, which his grandfather gave him as a present. This Charizard is known for being laid-back and often assists Kiawe’s family with deliveries. Despite its easygoing nature, it’s a strong Pokémon capable of performing powerful Z-Moves like Inferno Overdrive.

Alain Is Rarely Seen Without Mega Charizard X

Alain first appears in special episodes related to the Pokémon anime series, Pokémon the Series: XY. Before these episodes, he worked as Professor Sycamore’s assistant and trained a Charmander. But after meeting Lysandre, his life changed, and he left the professor’s lab. Since then, Alain and his Charizard have been traveling the Pokémon world, trying to learn everything they can about Mega Evolution.

I’m a huge fan of Alain and his Charizard! It’s incredible how Charizard can Mega Evolve into Mega Charizard X, completely changing its look and becoming a Fire and Dragon type – a really cool switch from Fire and Flying! Even when Alain was going down a dark path with Lysandre, Charizard and all his other Pokémon friends never gave up on him. Now that Team Flare is gone, they’ve both moved on and are still battling, and they’ve even made it to the Masters Eight Tournament – seriously impressive! It’s just a fantastic bond to watch.

In Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, you meet Hop, a childhood friend who also serves as your rival. You’ll also get to know his older brother, Leon, who is the energetic Galar Champion. While most new trainers in Galar choose from Scorbunny, Grookey, and Sobble, Leon actually started his Pokémon journey with a Charmander. Now, Leon’s Charizard is incredibly powerful and remains his most trusted Pokémon.

As a Pokémon fan, I’m totally fascinated by the Dynamax phenomenon in Galar! It’s amazing how Pokémon can grow so huge and powerful in certain areas. But get this – some Pokémon are even more special! They have something called the Gigantamax Factor, and it completely changes their appearance and gives them access to moves nobody else can learn. Leon’s Charizard is a prime example – when it Gigantamaxes, it grows these incredible wings made of fire! It was actually Ash and Pikachu’s final challenge in the Masters Eight Tournament, and honestly, it was an epic battle! Pikachu ultimately won, but Leon’s Gigantamax Charizard definitely put up a fight!

Friede Has Known Charizard Longer Than Captain Pikachu

When Pokémon Horizons: The Series began, I saw Liko meet Friede, a Pokémon Professor who’s a real adventurer. He actually helped start a group called the Rising Volt Tacklers and led them for quite a while. The group fell apart when he unexpectedly disappeared, but they’ve since gotten back together after reuniting. Friede is back now, but he’s focused on exploring space, so he’s currently left Roy in charge as the leader.

Friede is unique because he travels with two partner Pokémon: the famous Captain Pikachu, and his Charizard. While Pikachu is more well-known, Friede has actually been with Charizard for a longer time. The two were separated for about a year, venturing to an unknown location, before reuniting. Together, they are a powerful team, excelling in both ground and aerial battles.

Mewtwo Created Clones of Several Powerful Pokemon

Ash’s Charizard Was Forced To Fight His Clone

Team Rocket scientists, following Giovanni’s orders, successfully retrieved DNA from the legendary Pokémon Mew and used it to create Mewtwo, a genetically engineered clone. When Mewtwo awakens, it’s horrified to discover it was created solely as a weapon. Driven by this resentment, Mewtwo vows to destroy humanity and any Pokémon that sides with them, believing only it is worthy of being the ultimate Pokémon Master.

After catching some Pokémon, including Ash’s Charizard, Mewtwo uses its technology to make several clones. These cloned Pokémon, especially the clone of Charizard, are incredibly powerful. Ash unexpectedly intervenes, stopping the fierce battle and causing Mewtwo to reconsider what it’s done. The film ends with Mewtwo and its clones flying away into the sky.
