Villains are eager to challenge him, while his friends and allies strive to stay by his side. It’s clear the author put a great deal of effort into developing Jinwoo’s character, consistently maintaining the core themes of the series throughout the entire story.

In the series Solo Leveling, Ashborn, also known as the Shadow Monarch, felt a strong connection to Jinwoo. He paid more attention to Jinwoo, who was a very low-ranked hunter, than to the more powerful, top-ranked hunters. Unlike most hunters who would have ignored Jinwoo, Ashborn immediately saw his potential and chose him as his successor.

In the world of Solo Leveling, each monarch possesses a human host, and Ashborn, also known as the Shadow Monarch, is no different. His human vessel is Sung Jinwoo, who initially wasn’t a powerful fighter. In fact, Jinwoo started out incredibly weak—even basic monsters could defeat him. He lacked natural talent and weapon skills, making him vulnerable within the dangerous dungeons.

The other Monarchs likely chose strong human hosts, but Ashborn picked Jinwoo simply because he preferred him. Even though his mage, Kandiaru, protested, Ashborn didn’t change his mind. It seems being weak actually helps in the world of Solo Leveling, especially for someone like Jinwoo, who was constantly on the verge of death. Becoming a host for a Monarch is one way to gain incredible power.

Thanks to Kandiaru’s system, Ashborn quickly helped Jinwoo’s body adjust to his abilities. The harder Jinwoo worked to gain strength, the faster his body would accept Ashborn and his power. But unlike other Monarchs, Ashborn didn’t want to control Jinwoo – he saw him as the ideal person to inherit his power, not just a container for it.

He was incredibly impressed by Jinwoo’s strength and determination to survive, and immediately chose him as the person to inherit his abilities.

Ashborn wasn’t concerned with how strong Jinwoo currently was, or his skills in fighting and magic. He realized Jinwoo was initially weak, but that’s exactly why he decided to support him, particularly after witnessing his growth and progress. Ashborn eventually became so sure of Jinwoo’s capabilities, actions, and judgment that he felt comfortable stepping down from his position as the Shadow Monarch.

Ashborn has endured many hardships throughout his life, constantly striving to end the conflict between the rulers and monarchs in his own way. He suffered a deep betrayal by those he trusted, leaving him permanently disheartened. Witnessing Jinwoo’s progress, however, led Ashborn to believe that the new Shadow Monarch could succeed where he had failed. Ultimately, he realized it was time for him to step aside and fade into the past.

Jinwoo Inherits Ashborn’s Full Power
