According to Asus, a major partner of Nvidia, production of the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card is being stopped. The RTX 5060 Ti is also expected to be discontinued, reportedly due to a shortage of DRAM chips that’s impacting the whole tech industry.
Starting in October 2025, OpenAI secured roughly 40% of the global supply of RAM wafers to support its growing AI server infrastructure. This has caused prices for RAM, SSDs, and other computer parts to increase significantly. RAM kits, particularly DDR5, have seen the biggest price jumps, with costs increasing fourfold in the fall of 2025. Adding to the problem, Micron, a major RAM manufacturer, announced it’s leaving the consumer market to focus on enterprise production. Micron doesn’t foresee a quick fix to the RAM shortage, predicting it will likely continue throughout 2026.
The RTX 5070 Ti Reaches End-of-Life Status
Following Nvidia’s earlier announcement about reducing GPU production due to memory shortages, Asus has stopped making its RTX 5070 Ti graphics cards, and plans to do the same with the RTX 5060 Ti. While other manufacturers haven’t publicly announced similar cuts, Asus’s decision could significantly impact the GPU market. Currently, the Asus RTX 5070 Ti is out of stock on Newegg, though some kits are available on Amazon at higher prices. RTX 5070 Ti cards from MSI and Zotac are still on Newegg, starting around $830. The RTX 5060 Ti remains available on Amazon for between $450 and $500, with models from Gigabyte and Asus still under $500.
So, I’ve been hearing why Nvidia seems to be pulling back on the RTX 5070 Ti and 5060 Ti, and it all comes down to the memory. Both cards packed 16GB of video memory, which is great, but with the recent RAM shortages, those cards became way more expensive to make – they were using the newer, faster GDDR7 chips. Apparently, the same 16GB memory chips are also used in the more powerful (and pricier) RTX 5080. So, Nvidia is probably going to use whatever 16GB kits they have left for the 5080s instead. The problem is, the 5080 is a big jump in price – we’re talking starting at $1,300! And if you’re looking at the top-end RTX 5090, forget about it – some of those cards were already going for around $3,000. It’s a rough time to be building a PC right now, honestly.
PC Gamers Still Have GPU Options Available
It’s been tough for people looking for affordable Nvidia graphics cards with plenty of video memory, but rumors suggest Nvidia might bring back a popular older model – the GeForce RTX 3060. This card was consistently the most-used on Steam, and reports indicate it could return in early 2026. While Nvidia hasn’t confirmed anything, the RTX 3060 would be making a comeback over a year after production stopped in late 2024. Because it uses older technology, it should remain relatively inexpensive. Nvidia is also reportedly increasing production of the newer RTX 50 series cards with 8GB of VRAM to help lower costs, although these cards aren’t as powerful as those with 12GB or more of video memory.
If you’re looking for a 16GB graphics card in the $600 to $800 price range, you still have options. AMD’s Radeon RX 9000 series, including the RX 9060 XT, is readily available at many stores. While AMD cards don’t have all the same features as Nvidia cards, the RX 9060 XT and RX 9070 XT can easily handle all modern PC games at 1080p and 1440p resolutions with the highest graphics settings. With current memory supply issues, it remains to be seen whether more gamers will choose AMD over Nvidia.
