Fans are still eagerly awaiting news on The Elder Scrolls 6, but there’s more positive news about another Elder Scrolls project. Although the recent Starfield update and its release on PlayStation 5 are major events for Bethesda, fans are especially excited about Skyblivion. This fan-made project aims to recreate Oblivion using the engine from Skyrim, and it’s generating a lot of buzz.
I was watching the latest Skyblivion stream, and the project lead, Rebel, said things are going really well! They’re focusing on fixing bugs right now, and they want to get the mod out “as soon as possible.” Rock Paper Shotgun reported on it, and while it’s not a firm release date, it sounds like they’re still aiming for that 2026 timeframe after the recent delay. It’s good to hear things are progressing, even if we have to wait a little longer!
The Elder Scrolls: Skyblivion Finally Arrives This Year
At Long Last
The journey to release The Elder Scrolls: Skyblivion has taken many years. It started as a simple update to the original game in 2012, but grew into a complete remake. While Bethesda released their own updated version, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, Skyblivion still offers a unique experience with fresh visuals and new features.
Rock Paper Shotgun recently showcased improvements to dungeons in the upcoming Skyblivion mod, which will likely please fans of the original Oblivion. One of the biggest criticisms of both Oblivion and its remaster was the repetitive nature of its dungeons, especially when compared to the unique design of its cities, characters, and quests. The Skyblivion team also intends to improve creature variety and add more items and spells in future updates.
Who Needs The Elder Scrolls 6, Right?
This Might Be A Better Time
Right now, many fans have more confidence in Skyblivion than in The Elder Scrolls 6. Recent Bethesda games like Fallout 4 and Starfield didn’t quite capture the charm of their older titles, so there’s no certainty The Elder Scrolls 6 will recreate the magic of games like Oblivion and Skyrim. Plus, even if it does, it’s likely a long way off, so it’s probably best to not think about it for the time being.
It wouldn’t be shocking if Skyblivion delayed its release date again, but the development team is clearly making good progress. This is especially noticeable when you consider that we haven’t seen any gameplay footage of The Elder Scrolls 6 from Bethesda. Hopefully, fans will finally get the Oblivion remake they’ve been hoping for in 2026.
