Capcom recently announced a release date for their new game, Onimusha: Way of the Sword. First revealed at The Game Awards in 2024, this is the first major installment in the Onimusha series since 2006’s Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. For the past two decades, Capcom has kept the samurai-themed franchise alive with remasters of the original games and a virtual reality title, Onimusha VR: Shadow Team, which came out in 2025.
As a big fan, I’m really excited about Onimusha: Way of the Sword! It definitely feels like a fresh take on the original Onimusha games, building on that Resident Evilstyle gameplay. But what’s cool is Capcom isn’t trying to make just another super-hard Soulslike. They’re aiming for thrilling sword fights and that dark, scary atmosphere we loved, but with a bit less punishing difficulty. Honestly, it looks like they’re bringing Onimusha* back to its prime, and after all the amazing games Capcom has released lately, I have high hopes for this one!
Onimusha: Way of the Sword Release Date Teased Through Twitter “Hack”
Capcom has been hinting at the release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword through its official Twitter account. The hints are presented as tweets from Diana, a character from Capcom’s popular game Pragmata. It appears Diana is “hacking” into various Capcom Twitter accounts and posting from her perspective as part of a promotional campaign.
Diana recently shared gameplay screenshots from Onimusha: Way of the Sword on Twitter. In her last post, she announced she’d discovered a potential release date hidden within a file. Just as she was about to access the file, Hugh, the other main character from Pragmata, urged her to leave. Diana then bid her followers farewell in Japanese, a language she’d previously mentioned studying.
Capcom seems to be hinting at a release date for the new Onimusha game on Twitter, suggesting an official announcement is coming soon. They previously mentioned Onimusha: Way of the Sword was nearly finished in March after showing it at the Capcom Spotlight event. With the Summer Game Fest starting in June, we might hear more details—possibly in another Capcom Spotlight presentation—within the next month.

Capcom cleverly used a character from their hit game Pragmata to hint at the release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, which also helps promote Pragmata. Pragmata has been incredibly successful, earning great reviews and selling over a million copies in just two days. With both Pragmata and Resident Evil: Requiem performing so well this year, Capcom is hoping Onimusha: Way of the Sword will keep up their winning streak.
