So, there’s been a ton of talk lately about Nintendo potentially remaking Ocarina of Time, and it sounds like they might have accidentally let it slip! As a long-time Zelda fan, this is huge news. The original Ocarina of Time came out on N64 way back in ’98, and honestly, it’s still considered one of the best Zelda games ever made. It was the first time we got to explore Hyrule in 3D, and it basically set the stage for awesome games like Breath of the Wild that we play today.
Right now, it’s unclear what Nintendo has planned for the rest of 2026. They’ve announced four games coming out between May and July, but their plans for the holiday season are still unknown. This year is also the 40th anniversary of the popular Zelda series, and many fans are hoping for a special event to mark the occasion. If the rumors are true, a remake of a classic Zelda game would likely be a big hit with players.
Nintendo’s Unintentional Possible Ocarina of Time Confirmation
Talk about a possible remake of Ocarina of Time really gained momentum in March when a leaker named Nate the Hate mentioned it on his podcast. He said Nintendo was planning a major release of the remake this year, and also predicted Splatoon Raiders would come out in the summer, along with a new Star Fox game. It turned out he was right about Splatoon Raiders, which launched on July 23rd, and now Nintendo has confirmed a new Star Fox game is in development for the Switch 2.

Now that Star Fox is launching in June, many expect Nintendo to soon officially announce the remake of Ocarina of Time. While Nintendo was probably disappointed about the recent leak, leaks happen frequently in the gaming world, and they’ll likely share more news in the near future. Nintendo often holds Direct presentations in June to reveal games planned for release later in the year, and it’s safe to assume the Ocarina of Time remake isn’t the only game coming out during the holiday season.
The next Nintendo Direct presentation is expected to share details about upcoming games, particularly those planned for next year. Currently, Pokemon Winds and Waves is the only confirmed release for 2027, and we haven’t seen much else. The presentation might give us a first look at games coming out early in 2027. While the new Switch 2 console will likely be the main focus, we could also see some games for the existing Switch.

Remaking Ocarina of Time is a big gamble for Nintendo. It’s a beloved game, and fans will expect a remake that stays true to the original while also updating it with modern improvements. At the very least, it will likely please players who are eagerly awaiting the next major Zelda title. Considering a sequel to 2023’s Tears of the Kingdom is probably several years off, an Ocarina of Time remake would give the Switch 2 a major game to play. While not officially announced, the remake seems much more probable now that Star Fox is confirmed to be in development.
