As the release of 007 First Light approaches in just a few weeks, developer IO Interactive is sharing more details about their new James Bond adventure. A recent, extensive Q&A session with the game’s developers, including the director, addressed many fan questions. While giving players a good understanding of what to expect, the session also revealed that a highly requested feature won’t be included in the initial launch of 007 First Light.
IO Interactive, the studio famous for the Hitman series and games like Kane & Lynch, is switching gears after 16 years. They’re taking on the challenge of creating a James Bond game – a first for them! Previously, Activision published Bond games, but they lost the rights in 2012 after 007 Legends. Now, the Hitman team is developing a new Bond adventure, focusing on his early days as a rookie agent and telling an origin story.
007 First Light Won’t Have New Game Plus
The new James Bond game, 007 First Light, is coming out soon and is highly anticipated by gamers. To address fan questions, the developers at IO Interactive recently hosted a livestream Q&A. While the game will be packed with content at launch, IO Interactive has confirmed that it won’t include a New Game Plus option. Despite many players hoping for a post-release update to add NG+, the studio has stated they don’t plan to implement it.

The team confirmed there won’t be a playable demo of 007 First Light before its May 27th launch, which might be frustrating for players who are still deciding whether to buy it. However, the game won’t include a New Game Plus mode, a feature many fans likely already anticipated.
Last month, IO Interactive revealed Tac-Sim, a new mode for 007 First Light that’s similar to New Game Plus. It lets players revisit missions with extra difficulties, tweaks, and goals, adding a lot of replay value. It’s clearly inspired by the Escalation mode from Hitman. Tac-Sim also includes an online leaderboard to compare scores with other players and rewards progress with experience points, which can be used to unlock better gadgets, weapons, and outfits.
Even before its release, 007 First Light is generating excitement and could be a strong contender for game of the year. With James Bond’s long history in gaming, there’s a lot of potential for IO Interactive to create a sequel continuing their interpretation of the character. However, the studio has stated that a follow-up depends on how successful First Light is. IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak confirmed they are open to developing a sequel if the game performs exceptionally well.
