Switch 2 Star Fox Game Reveals First Official Look at Team Star Wolf

The upcoming Star Fox game for Switch 2 will reimagine many familiar characters, and Nintendo has now shown off the new look for Team Star Wolf. First appearing in Star Fox 64, the team consists of Wolf O’Donnell, Pigma Dengar, Leon Kowalski, and Andrew Oikonny. As the Switch 2 game is a remake of Star Fox 64, players can anticipate a story similar to the original, including the rivalry between the Star Fox team and Team Star Wolf.

Following over a month of speculation, Nintendo has officially confirmed that a new Star Fox game is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25th. While the original Switch didn’t receive a dedicated Star Fox title, characters from the series did appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the game Starlink: Battle for Atlas.

During a recent Nintendo Direct presentation, the next Star Fox game was unveiled, along with redesigned looks for classic characters like Fox McCloud, Falco Lombardi, Peppy Hare, and Slippy Toad. The Star Wolf team was also showcased, and like the heroes, they’ve received more realistic and detailed animal designs. Compared to the original N64 game, the new character models have a lot more detail – Leon now has scales, Andrew looks particularly self-satisfied (which makes sense, as Andross’ nephew), Wolf has a fierce expression, and Pigma appears older and more disheveled.

In the main story of the new Star Fox game, you’ll only play as Fox McCloud. However, you’ll get opportunities to control the Star Wolf pilots as well. The game’s multiplayer mode lets you pick either Team Star Fox or Team Star Wolf for 4-on-4 aerial battles. A cool feature is that the Switch 2’s GameChat lets your character model reflect which pilot you’ve chosen. It seems like a great addition and a particularly creative use of the Switch 2’s capabilities since its release last year.

The upcoming Star Fox game is making good use of a clever feature on the Switch 2 called GameShare. GameShare lets players share games they’ve purchased, especially for playing with others. Games like Pokopia and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment already use it, allowing one person who owns the game to stream it to nearby consoles or friends online through GameChat. It even works with the original Switch, expanding the player base. This could make Star Fox‘s multiplayer more fun and make it easier to find people to play with.

Though Star Fox originally came out almost thirty years ago, the developers have successfully updated it with modern features and a fresh look, including new character designs and capabilities taking advantage of the Switch 2. With rumors circulating about a Ocarina of Time remake also coming to the Switch 2, how Star Fox has been revamped could hint at what fans can expect from that title. It looks like Nintendo is revisiting its N64 classics this year and finding innovative ways to bring them up to date.
