Good Smile Company is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the popular anime series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya with a new 1/7 scale figure of the main character. The show, known for its quirky humor and unusual storytelling, first aired two decades ago and remains a fan favorite. Its blend of sci-fi comedy, memorable characters, and seemingly normal high school setting helped make it one of the most iconic anime series of the 2000s.
The 2006 anime series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, based on the popular light novels by Nagaru Tanigawa with illustrations by Noizi Ito, quickly became a hit when it first aired. While it seems like a typical high school comedy at first, the show actually includes elements of science fiction like time travel, aliens, and even a protagonist who develops godlike abilities. The ending theme, “Hare Hare Yukai,” is still widely recognized and enjoyed by anime fans today, with people continuing to recreate the dance online and at events. Now, fans can look forward to a fantastic new release that’s sure to delight longtime followers of the series.
Good Smile Releases Vibrant Haruhi Suzumiya Figure for the Series’ 20th Anniversary
To mark the 20th anniversary of the anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Good Smile Company has announced a new 1/7 scale figure of Haruhi Suzumiya. The figure depicts Haruhi sitting at her desk, pointing forward with energy, and includes her signature armband and ribbons. It stands about 7.87 inches tall and comes with a Brigade Leader Sign. Preorders are available now for $162.99, with shipments expected between April and June 2027.
What truly makes The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya stand out are its compelling themes and characters. However, the way the episodes were originally released is also quite unique. In Japan, the 14 episodes weren’t shown in the order they happened in the novels. Instead, they mixed scenes from the beginning and end of the story. This creates a different viewing experience than watching them in order, and you can now watch the series on Crunchyroll to see how it was originally presented.
The popular anime series Haruhi Suzumiya was created by the highly respected studio Kyoto Animation. Founded in 1981, Kyoto Animation became famous for many fan-favorite shows in the 2000s, like Clannad, Nichijou, K-On!, Free!, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, and Violet Evergarden. In 2019, a tragic arson attack at the studio claimed the lives of 36 people, but the studio persevered. Kyoto Animation is currently producing Sparks of Tomorrow and is also working on an anime adaptation of the manga RuriDragon, a coming-of-age fantasy series by Masaoki Shindo.
