The company has faced some challenges in the past few years, including layoffs and price increases for Game Pass, which caused some players to cancel their subscriptions. This year has seen major leadership changes and ongoing shifts within the company, happening almost weekly.
Earlier this year, both Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond left Xbox, which came as a surprise to many. Asha Sharma quickly stepped in as the new leader and has already made significant changes. She’s brought back the classic Xbox brand name, replacing the previous “Microsoft Gaming” label, and lowered the price of Game Pass Ultimate. A new Xbox logo reflects this refreshed identity, although Game Pass branding hasn’t been updated yet.

I remember when Xbox first showed off that super minimalist logo – a lot of us longtime fans weren’t thrilled! It felt so different from the Xbox we knew and loved. But this new logo? It’s a huge improvement! It’s still clean and modern, but the glassy effect gives it so much more character. It feels like they’ve finally struck the right balance between honoring the classic Xbox and looking forward to the future. The whole rebrand is really exciting, though I think there’s still some tweaking to do with Game Pass to make everything perfect.

Game Pass Needs a New Logo That is Just as Cool
With the recent update to the Xbox logo, the Game Pass logo now looks a bit dated in comparison. The new Xbox design actually makes Game Pass’s simple logo feel even more basic. Microsoft might be planning a refresh for Game Pass as well, and it probably would have made sense to launch both logo updates together. However, it’s also possible the Game Pass logo won’t be changing at all.
Game Pass has been undergoing a lot of changes lately. Besides the recent price drop for Game Pass Ultimate, a significant shift is happening with the Call of Duty franchise, which will no longer be available on the service on the day of its release. A new logo could emphasize how committed Xbox is to highlighting these changes and the evolving role of Game Pass.
The Future of Xbox is Going to Be in the Spotlight This Year
Last year was tough for Xbox, with the cancellation of the Perfect Dark remake and other projects like the mysterious ZeniMax game, Project Blackbird. But things are looking up now. Asha Sharma’s recent moves have created excitement about Xbox’s future, and we should learn even more about their plans as the year goes on.
Xbox Needs to Use the Summer to Its Advantage
With big gaming events like Summer Game Fest coming up soon, Xbox has a great opportunity to highlight its plans for returning to its core values. They’ve already got some exciting things in the works, including the next Xbox Games Showcase on June 7th, followed by a presentation dedicated to Gears of War: E-Day. This showcase would be the ideal time to update the Game Pass logo to align with the main Xbox branding. While it’s currently unknown if a new logo is planned, hopefully, any changes will create a more unified look for the overall brand.
