NTE Drift Guide (& Best Car Mods for Drifting)

Want to dominate street races or travel in style across the world of Neverness to Everness? Then you need to learn how to drift! While the idea is simple – press the handbrake while turning and accelerating – it can be tricky to master. This will cause your car to slide sideways, letting you maintain speed around corners or, potentially, send you off course. This guide will cover everything you need to know about drifting in NTE.

NTE Drift Controls

This guide focuses on using a mouse and keyboard on PC, but the core ideas work just as well with controllers or touch controls on mobile devices.

If you want to drift in NTE, follow these steps:

  1. Drive until you gain enough momentum.
  2. Tap your Handbrake button while holding the Accelerate button and turning toward the desired location.
  3. Release the Handbrake button.
  4. Steer to the opposite direction to exit from drifting.

If you want to successfully drift in NTE, the key is to keep pressing the accelerate button while you turn and use the handbrake. Letting go could cause your car to stall. If you need to reduce speed, gently press the accelerate button again until you regain control. Ultimately, drifting comes down to finding the right balance and feel for your car.

When to Release the Handbrake?

How long you hold the handbrake depends on how tight the turn is, but generally, don’t hold it for longer than a second – you’ll slow down significantly. On most tracks, holding the handbrake for just 0.25 to 0.5 seconds is enough to initiate a good drift. This timing works well for most NTE vehicles, but it can vary slightly depending on the specific car and any modifications you’ve made.

Currently, there’s an issue with the Novus ST79 car where it struggles to drift if your game is running at more than 30 frames per second. The Novus C2000 drifts normally at higher frame rates like 60 or 120 FPS, but the ST79’s tires seem to have too much grip, preventing it from drifting properly.

Where to Practice Drifting

If you’re looking for a good spot to drift in NTE, check out Whitetail Ridge Road, just north of the Miguel District. It’s a street racing track where you can compete against other players or computer-controlled opponents. Find the flag icon on the map to get there.

You could also go to the large bridge connected to the Bureau of Anomaly Control. It’s generally quiet, and while it doesn’t have many curves for practicing drifts, it’s a good spot to get used to how the cards control.

Best Car Mods for Drifting

The best limited-slip differential (LSD) will depend on your car model, but you’ll generally want to choose one designed for drifting. For instance, the AF – LSD005 model works well for the C2000, making it easier to drift. When you’re at car shops in NTE, be sure to read the descriptions of the LSDs to see if they mention being suitable for drift setups.

Many players, including me, prefer drifting with the ST79. For the best handling on the curves of Whitetail Road Ridge, I suggest using the default LSD. If you’re looking for more dramatic drifts and stronger turns, especially on tight corners, the LSD004 mod is a good choice, but it costs over 600,000 Fons. To earn money quickly in NTE, you can find hidden safes throughout the city or bid on the Gluttonous Eye at the Ebisu Auction.

If you plan on drifting, consider upgrading to a more powerful engine and transmission to maintain your speed.
