Sony President and CEO Acknowledges AI as a ‘Powerful Tool’
I was really interested to hear what Sony’s CEO, Hiroki Totoki, had to say on their earnings call recently. He talked a lot about AI, and it was cool to hear him emphasize that they don’t see it as something that will replace artists and creators. Instead, he described AI as a way to boost human creativity and open up a ton of exciting new opportunities – basically, a tool to help us imagine and create even more!
AI Will Support PlayStation’s Entertainment Mission, Exec Says
According to Sony executives, AI’s impact on gaming and entertainment won’t just be about making things faster or cheaper. Totoki explained that AI could unlock entirely new possibilities, allowing for projects that were previously too ambitious to attempt. Hideaki Nishino, CEO of PlayStation, echoed this sentiment, calling AI a valuable asset that will help PlayStation continue to deliver a top-tier experience for both gamers and creators.
During an investor call, Sony’s Hiroki Totoki discussed the current challenges with memory chip costs and how they might affect the PlayStation 6. He confirmed that Sony is actively developing the next PlayStation, but the price and release date haven’t been decided yet. Totoki stated that fluctuating memory prices are a concern, and Sony is watching the situation closely. Interestingly, he also hinted that Sony is exploring different ways to sell the PS6, depending on future market conditions, though he didn’t provide details. The PS6 is expected to build on Sony’s advancements in AI-powered gaming, and it will likely include dedicated hardware to enhance graphics through technologies like upscaling and image reconstruction.
