Fire Force: 7 Strongest Ignition Abilities

I’m a huge fan of action anime, and you often see fire-users as incredibly powerful characters – think Roy Mustang or Madara Uchiha. But Fire Force takes that to a whole new level! In this world, fire isn’t just a power – it is the norm. Everyone has these Ignition Abilities, basically pyrokinetic powers, and they use them in every single fight. What I really love is how the author, Atsushi Okubo, really went all-out exploring fire in every way imaginable – from fire-based bullets to, believe it or not, cat girls wielding flames, even lightsaber-like weapons and fiery kicks! He truly pushed the limits of how fire can be expressed in a battle anime.

Throughout the anime series Fire Force, fans were captivated by the various Ignition Abilities. Now that the show has ended, it’s clear which Abilities were the most impressive. As you might expect, the strongest and most effective Abilities belonged to the most powerful and well-remembered characters, whether they were fire soldiers or members of the white-clad cult.

Devil’s Footprints Delivers Powerful Kicks and Boosts Mobility

User: Shinra Kusakabe

It’s typical for the main character in an action-packed anime like Fire Force to have incredible powers, and Shinra is no exception. His ability, called Devil’s Footprints, quickly becomes humanity’s last hope. He gains speed and power by running and kicking with his bare feet, leaving trails of ash behind him. Essentially, Shinra is a powerful fighter who relies on his kicks to win.

Devil’s Footprints gives Shinra impressive strength and speed, making him a strong fighter, but he needed further development to become truly elite. Training with Shinmon unlocked his Hysterical Strength and, combined with Adolla’s Grace, allowed him to master his unique, fast-paced kicking style. This culminated in the final battle of Fire Force, where Shinra fused with his family to become Shinra Bansho, a fitting conclusion to the Devil’s Footprints technique that had defined his fighting up to that point.

Excalibur is the Sword That Saved the World From Dragon

User: Arthur Boyle

Arthur Boyle from Fire Force quickly became known as one of the best anime knights, largely due to his unique ability, Excalibur. It was almost inevitable that Fire Force would include a swordsman, as most action-packed anime stories do, but Arthur didn’t just use a traditional katana. Instead, he creates a blade of incredibly hot plasma – essentially a lightsaber – which immediately set him apart.

What really makes Arthur’s plasma sword special is how he embodies the legendary King Arthur – a surprisingly effective combination of humor, sadness, and strength in combat. While he sometimes seems lost in the role, almost like he’s avoiding who he truly is, it’s actually a way for him to feel powerful, drawing on his own idea of the King Arthur figure. This significantly enhances his abilities and later connects to the larger themes of identity and perception in Fire Force.

Voltage Nova is Ideal For Close-Range Showdowns

User: Leonard Burns

Captain Leonard Burns of Company 1 is one of the most powerful firefighters in Fire Force. This isn’t unusual for action anime, which often include a select group of strong leaders – like the Captains in Bleach, the Hashira in Demon Slayer, and the division captains in Kaiju No. 8, such as Mina Ashiro.

Fire Force continues to introduce compelling characters like Leonard Burns, a leader who acted as a mentor to Shinra. He lives up to his respected reputation with his powerful ability, Voltage Nova, which transforms him into an incredibly strong hand-to-hand combatant. It’s no surprise that his doppelganger turned him into a terrifying, horned creature—a form he ultimately embraced after the world was renewed.

Iai Hand-Sword is the Trademark Ignition Ability of Asakusa

User: Shinmon Benimaru

Captain Shinmon Benimaru, like Leonard Burns, is one of the strongest fighters in Fire Force. Even though his evil twin wasn’t very effective during the apocalypse, Benimaru himself is incredibly powerful. While his regular fire techniques are great, his Ignition Ability is what truly sets him apart. His Iai Hand-Sword is a fantastic weapon, with very few rivals in the entire Fire Force universe.

As a second-generation and third-generation pyrokinetic, and seriously skilled in martial arts, Benimaru is a total force to be reckoned with in any fight, no matter how close or far away the enemy is! He’s a master of Iai Hand-Sword style, blending his incredible flames with his martial arts skills to create some truly devastating attacks. Honestly, very few people in Fire Force – even powerful Infernals or those creepy white-clad cultists – can withstand an all-out assault from him!

Crimson Bullet Strikes With Astonishing Speed and Power

User: Assault

The group, all dressed in white, made it known they intended to fight fiercely, and their duplicates felt the same way. A particularly striking example is a villain named Assault, who uses the Crimson Bullet ability to attack from a distance. Assault excels at ranged combat, keeping close-quarters fighters like Shinra at bay, though he can also defend himself up close.

A skilled fighter like Assault, known for his Crimson Bullet technique, excels at a specific fighting distance but can still perform well up close or further away. He uses Crimson Bullets to amplify his powerful punches, delivering devastating blows at close range that explode on impact, sending opponents flying.

Fire Breathing Overwhelms the Enemy in a Blistering Onslaught

User: Dragon

In the final battles of Fire Force, Arthur proved himself as a key hero when he bravely confronted Dragon, one of the most powerful enemies created by the Evangelist. By that point in the series, most fire soldiers were either out of action or didn’t have much of a chance against the Evangelist’s strongest followers – and Dragon was definitely the most formidable of them all. Living up to his name, Dragon is massive, incredibly durable with scale-like armor, and can breathe fire.

Dragon’s ‘Fire Breathing’ ability is exactly what it sounds like: he can unleash incredibly powerful blasts of fire from his mouth to destroy his opponents. While Fire Force explored many creative ways to use fire in battle, this direct approach is surprisingly effective. When used by a skilled fighter like Dragon, it’s a devastating attack that Arthur barely managed to withstand.

Fire Arrows Dominate Long-Range Battles

User: Arrow

Arrow is a skilled archer and one of anime’s best marksmen, and her codename perfectly matches her power – the ability to ignite her arrows. Like many action anime feature a swordsman, series like Fire Force often include a character who excels at ranged combat, and Arrow fills that role. She’s a precise and deadly sniper, capable of taking down even powerful opponents like Rekka Hoshimiya when the situation demands it.

Arrow relies on stealth and surprise attacks to make her incredibly effective, guaranteeing her fire arrows often hit first – and potentially end a fight immediately. She used to terrorize Shinra and his friends with this long-range fighting style, but when she joined the heroes near the end of Fire Force, it was a huge relief. No one had to worry about her suddenly firing an unpredictable, long-distance arrow that could be fatal.
