The Dragon Ball Super manga hasn’t had a new chapter since Toyotarou released Chapter 104 last year. The manga currently has 24 volumes, and while Toyotarou hinted at its return earlier in 2024, we don’t know when the Black Frieza Saga will actually start. While fans are waiting for Chapter 105, the official Dragon Ball website has launched a new poll for its “Super Cover Gallery.”
Japanese copies of the Dragon Ball Super manga have a hidden surprise: a different cover underneath the regular dust jacket. These alternate covers are always redrawn by Toyotarou, based on the original artwork. Interestingly, they often feature characters other than Goku, with Vegeta appearing on more alternate covers than anyone else. This highlights Vegeta’s importance as a central character alongside Goku in the Dragon Ball series.
Vegeta Takes Goku’s Spotlight in Rare Alternate Covers For the Dragon Ball Super Manga
Vegeta Shines as Dragon Ball Super’s Real Main Character
Vegeta is increasingly feeling like the central figure in Dragon Ball Super. He’s been featured in more battles than Goku, has received more in-depth character arcs, and feels more personally invested in each major story. The manga has even begun to showcase this shift, with volumes 1, 9, 11, and 14 focusing on Vegeta instead of Goku. Notably, volume 1 includes a scene of Vegeta riding Porunga, mirroring Goku’s ride with Shenron in the very first Dragon Ball volume – a clear nod to Vegeta’s rising importance.
The ninth volume of Dragon Ball Super showcases Vegeta in his Super Saiyan Blue Evolved form fighting Jiren, instead of Goku using Ultra Instinct. Volume eleven highlights Vegeta by putting him front and center, enjoying a burger in everyday clothes. Finally, volume fourteen features Vegeta on the cover in his Galactic Patrol uniform, overlooking Planet Yardrat as he prepares for his ultimate battle against Moro.
Vote For Your Favorite Dragon Ball Super Cover
The Winning Volume Will Receive New Alternate Artwork From Toyotarou Himself
It’s Goku Day, and fans of Dragon Ball can now vote for their favorite cover art on the Official Dragon Ball Website! The winning cover will be redrawn as an alternate version by Toyotarou. Voting began on May 9, 2026, and ends May 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM Japan Standard Time. You can vote once each day to help your favorite volumes win the “My Favorite Cover” poll.
Last year, we asked fans to vote for their favorite covers from the first 42 volumes of Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball manga. The winning covers were from volumes 42, 1, and 27. Volume 42 shows Goku waving farewell, volume 1 features Goku riding Shenron, and volume 27 showcases striking art of Frieza, Super Saiyan Goku, and Piccolo.
