Casey Hudson Comments on How Long It’ll Take to Beat Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic

So, I was reading up on Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, and the game director, Casey Hudson, basically said it might not take as long to finish as some of us are expecting. It’s still a ways off, but he also hinted that there’s going to be a good amount of replayability, which is awesome! It sounds like we’ll get a lot of playtime out of it, even after we ‘beat’ the main story.

I was so excited when Arcanaut Studios and LucasArts announced their new game at The Game Awards in 2025! It’s called Fate of the Old Republic, and while we know it’s coming, a lot of the details – like where it’s even set – are still under wraps. The wait is tough, but at least we Star Wars fans have two things to look forward to in 2026! If you’re into strategy games, Star Wars Zero Company is coming out later in the year, and for those of us who love podracing, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is scheduled to launch on October 6th. Can’t wait!

Casey Hudson: “Bigger Isn’t Necessarily Better”

While some single-player games are incredibly long, Arcanaut Studios’ upcoming Star Wars game won’t be one of them. According to a Bloomberg report, studio head Hudson believes that a game doesn’t need to be massive to be enjoyable. He explained that many players simply want an experience they can complete in a reasonable amount of time. Like games such as Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect, Fate of the Old Republic will offer replayability through branching storylines and different choices players can make.

Gamers typically spend around 36.5 hours completing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and about 41 hours to finish Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords, according to How Long To Beat.

Hudson’s comments followed an announcement from Arcanaut Studios detailing the developers working on Fate of the Old Republic. The team includes experienced creators who previously worked on the original KOTOR games, like Dan Fessenden, Ryan Hoyle, and Caroline Livingstone. Arcanaut Studios also hired Pascale Blanche, a seasoned art director with experience at Warner Bros. and Ubisoft, and Melanie Faulknor, formerly of Bioware. Though Arcanaut Studios was founded in 2025, Hudson quickly assembled a team of well-known industry veterans.

Fate of the Old Republic Still Has A Long Way To Go

Despite the excitement, there’s still some uncertainty about when Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will actually be available. While the game won’t come out in 2026, Hudson has confirmed it will be released before 2030. Hudson also reassured fans that the game will be made without using generative AI, which he described as lacking creativity. Arcanaut has said Fate of the Old Republic is inspired by the Knights of the Old Republic series, but it’s still unclear exactly what the final game will be like as development progresses.

More Games

With the original Knights of the Old Republic games widely considered to be among the greatest Star Wars games ever made, Fate of the Old Republic has a lot to live up to. Fortunately, the project includes Hudson and other developers who previously worked on KOTOR, so it remains to be seen how well it will stack up against those classics.
