Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Episode Mode is 10 Hours of No Fights

Arc System Works has shared more information about Episode Mode in their new Marvel fighting game, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. This mode is designed for relaxation and won’t include any traditional fighting matches. While there will be some gameplay elements, you won’t be battling against opponents.

I was reading a recent interview with Takeshi Yamanaka, the producer of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, and he gave some more details about the Episode Mode. Apparently, it’s going to be like a motion comic, and he says there’s enough story content to keep you playing for almost 10 hours! But when someone asked if we’d actually fight in this mode, he said… nope, no fights at all. It’s all story, which is interesting!

Yamanaka added:

So, I jumped into Episode Mode, and it’s pretty cool – the story actually keeps going even when I’m not actively playing! I can speed things up with a button if I want, or slow down and really check out the artwork. It’s designed to feel like reading a comic, which is a really neat way to experience the game.

Most fighting games tell their stories with cutscenes or comic-style images between battles. But Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is different – it aims to feel like you’re actually reading a long comic book, and it’s designed to take around ten hours to play through on its own.

Fans have plenty to look forward to in the rest of the game, with exciting matches and battles between Marvel’s most popular heroes. Arc System Works just revealed that Savage Hulk and Shuri’s Black Panther will join the initial lineup of 20 playable characters when the game releases.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will be available on PlayStation 5 and PC on August 6, 2026. You can download it on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
