I’ve been following Space Haven for a while now – it’s this awesome indie sci-fi game where you build and manage a colony in space. It first came out in Early Access on Steam back in 2020, but I was so excited when the full 1.0 version finally launched on May 13th! And honestly, the reviews are incredible – everyone on Steam seems to be loving it.
Even though Space Haven just officially launched, it’s been popular with a dedicated fanbase for years, and many consider it a top-tier space construction game. The small development team at Bugbyte – just three people – have poured nearly ten years of work into this “labor of love,” as they describe it.
Space Haven Launches to Very Positive Reviews on Steam
Since launching on May 13th, Space Haven has received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with 91% of recent user reviews being positive. Overall, the game boasts an 85% satisfaction rating based on over 5,000 reviews collected in the last six years. SteamDB data shows that Space Haven has also attracted over 3,000 players at the same time, which is a strong result for a single-player indie title.

In the spaceship management game Space Haven, you start as a space nomad with a small, vulnerable ship and limited supplies. The beginning of the game is all about staying alive – you’ll face challenges like hazardous gases (similar to those in Oxygen Not Included), dangerous aliens, and attacks from pirates and enemy ships. As your crew expands and you secure basic necessities, you can start building and customizing your own colony within your spaceship or a space station, thanks to the game’s detailed building options.
What many sandbox fans love about Space Haven is the incredible freedom it gives you to design and run your own spaceship. The developers at Bugbyte have made it so you can change every part of your ship, and everything you build has a specific function. Plus, the game lets you deeply manage your crew, creating detailed daily routines for each member.

In Space Haven, you can play in one of two ways: as a galactic explorer or a station colonizer. As an explorer, you’ll travel between star systems in a vast, randomly generated universe, focusing on survival while still building and managing bases. Alternatively, you can choose to build and expand a single interstellar station, prioritizing interactions with characters and managing your crew – a system inspired by games like RimWorld.
