Growing up in San Diego, I’m still upset the Chargers moved away. However, I have to admit their social media team has been doing a fantastic job with their NFL schedule releases. People really look forward to seeing what creative theme they’ll come up with next. This year’s video might be their best yet – it’s especially fun for gamers and includes a lot of funny details.
The Los Angeles Chargers unveiled their NFL schedule in a remarkably creative video game-inspired release. The entire video is built using levels from the game Halo, with each level designed as a unique “map” themed around an upcoming opponent. These maps include both obvious and subtle nods to the opponent’s team history. What makes it even better is the Chargers teamed up with Microsoft to create the video, adding a layer of realism and polish.
To really get why the Los Angeles Chargers’ schedule release video is so good, you need to follow the NFL at least a little bit. Think of someone who regularly plays the Madden video game and builds their favorite team to win the Super Bowl. The more you know about the Chargers and the league, the more hidden jokes and details you’ll notice. Even things like the names of the locations and the opponent logos were pretty funny.
The Los Angeles Rams included a reference to a past issue: their general manager, Les Snead, once wore a Colorado Avalanche jersey while the Los Angeles Kings – the team he was expected to support – were playing against the Avalanche. Although both teams are owned by the same person, Rams owner Stan Kroenke, fans considered it inappropriate and it caused some controversy. It’s fitting the Chargers included this detail in their video.
I don’t want to give away all the surprises, but the joke about the Broncos really stood out to me. Targeting the ankle with a grenade is a clear reference to Bo Nix’s injury during the AFC playoffs, and that’s exactly the kind of playful jab you’d expect from a rival team. Some might even say it unfairly helped the Patriots’ chances in the 2026 Super Bowl, but it was a good shot! I also suggest scanning the QR code – it has a funny dig at the Kansas City Chiefs.

Everyone leading up to the NFL schedule release on Thursday night was curious if the league would acknowledge the controversy involving Mike Vrabel and Diana Russini. There was debate about whether making a joke about it would be appropriate, and if any team would dare to do so. The NFL reportedly didn’t issue any rules about mentioning the scandal, leaving it up to each team to decide. This led many to wonder if the Chargers would choose to address it in their schedule release.
The answer is yes – yes, they would. The references are subtle, but they are there.
The Los Angeles Chargers have once again created a fantastic NFL schedule release video, and it’s hard to say which one is their best yet. Last year’s Minecraft theme was great, but this year’s Halo video is even more impressive. Using Jeff Steitzer, the iconic voice of Halo, adds a nostalgic touch for gamers, and the video is especially clever for those who are also NFL fans. If the team continues to partner with Microsoft, it will be exciting to see what theme they come up with for the 2027 schedule release – perhaps something based on World of Warcraft?
