The popular game Marathon will get a big update called Nightfall in June. Game developer Bungie announced it will be released on June 2nd, 2026, for both consoles and PC, and includes a lot of new content as part of the game’s second season.
When the Nightfall event happens, everything you‘ve earned in the current Marathon season will be reset – it’s the game’s first seasonal reset! Bungie wants to give everyone a fresh start and level playing field for the new season, but that means your progress from this season won’t carry over.
The following progression will be erased for all players at the start of Nightfall:
- Runner Level
- Ranked Level
- Faction levels and upgrades
- Credits and most currencies
- Inventory and Vault items
- Purchases unlocked through Schemas
- Messages, rewards, and returned gear in your Mailbox
- Priority Contracts
- Seasonal Codex entries tied to Runner and Ranked progression
Luckily, some progression will carry over. Bungie detailed what players will be able to keep below:
- Cosmetics and weapon unlocks already redeemed during Season 1
- Titles, emblems, and other permanent cosmetics
- Codex challenge progress outside of Runner and Ranked levelling
- Faction access unlocks
- Rewards Pass progress
- Cryo Archive Subroutine progress
- Non-seasonal achievements and progression
Marathon’s Nightfall update introduces the Night Marsh Zone, a darker, nighttime version of Dire Marsh. Visibility is significantly reduced in this new zone, making matches more challenging and requiring players to stay focused to protect their items and equipment.
Bungie is introducing a new Runner Shell for Marathon, along with a system called The Cradle. The Cradle will allow players to fine-tune their Runner Shells, making them stronger in some areas and weaker in others. This is designed to give players more diverse and customizable options, addressing feedback that many players currently use very similar builds.
In addition to the new story content, the Nightfall update will bring new weapons and general improvements to the game. Before the new season begins, Bungie is launching the Cryo Archive event, which will be available daily from May 21st to June 2nd. For competitive players, Cryo Archive: Ranked offers a chance to climb the ranks and earn exclusive rewards like unique cosmetics, titles, emblems, and weapon designs before Nightfall is released.
Marathon: Nightfall will arrive on 2 June 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
