Solo Leveling: 6 Most Overpowered S-Rank Hunters, Ranked

In the world of Solo Leveling, S-Rank Hunters are considered the most powerful people alive. Even among them, National Level Hunters stand out as exceptionally strong, capable of incredible feats. While S-Rank Hunters are already incredibly powerful, Sung Jinwoo and his son, Sung Suho, use a special System to become even stronger than anyone else, surpassing even other famous anime heroes.

In the world of Solo Leveling, the strongest S-Rank Hunters are incredibly powerful warriors capable of overcoming any obstacle, particularly in the Solo Leveling: Ragnarok storyline. The Ragnarok arc significantly alters the power dynamics of the series. While Sung Jinwoo becomes even more formidable, many of the original S-Rank Hunters also experience substantial power increases.

6. Liu Zhigang is China’s Greatest Warrior

China’s hunter ranking system designates Liu Zhigang as a 7-Star Hunter, equivalent to an S-Rank. He’s currently the second-highest ranked national-level hunter globally, after Thomas Andre. However, Liu Zhigang has already achieved far more than Thomas Andre did in the original timeline.

During the Japan Crisis storyline, Liu Zhigang effortlessly defeated a Giant, showcasing his incredible power. As a highly skilled and incredibly fast fighter, he’s stronger than most Hunters globally. However, even Liu Zhigang is just one example of the many overwhelmingly powerful S-Rank Hunters featured in Solo Leveling.

5. Sung Il-Hwan is Even Stronger Than National Level Hunters

When Sung Il-Hwan vanished during a dungeon raid, the hunter ranking system hadn’t been created yet. Ten years later, when he returned, he’d become an official S-Rank hunter, and his power exceeded even the strongest National Level Hunters. During the Monarchs War, he was powerful enough to battle both Rakan and Sillad simultaneously.

In the original Solo Leveling story, Sung Il-Hwan was killed while battling two Monarchs simultaneously. However, in the updated Solo Leveling: Ragnarok timeline, he’s become powerful enough to resist the influence of the Outer Gods—something even the most skilled National Level Hunters couldn’t do. This makes Sung Il-Hwan the strongest Ruler’s Vessel in the entire series.

4. Thomas Andre Becomes a Monarch-Level Hunter in Ragnarok

Thomas Andre is considered the most powerful S-Rank Hunter in the United States and is ranked number one among all national-level Hunters worldwide. Throughout much of Season 3 of Solo Leveling, Thomas Andre is depicted as being more powerful than Sung Jinwoo. The story eventually features a battle between the two characters.

By this point in the story, Sung Jinwoo is significantly stronger and does manage to defeat Thomas Andre, but Andre still poses a serious threat and is able to injure him. Later, in the Solo Leveling: Ragnarok timeline, Andre becomes incredibly powerful as the Monarch of Conquest, far exceeding his original strength.

3. Cha Hae-In Becomes a National Level-Tier S-Rank in Ragnarok

In the original timeline of Solo Leveling, Cha Hae-In was a top-tier S-Rank Hunter, but she eventually fell behind as characters became incredibly powerful. However, in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, Cha Hae-In is much stronger. As Sung Suho’s mother, she’s evolved to the point where she can control mana at the level of a Monarch. By the time Ragnarok begins, she’s powerful enough to defeat an Apostle of Itarim.

Cha Hae-In is exceptionally powerful, surpassing all other S-Rank Hunters, even those at the national level, because she can defeat and absorb the energy of an Apostle. In the Solo Leveling: Ranarok light novel, she even manages to defeat the ultimate boss of the S-Rank Raid. While not as strong as her husband or son, she makes her already incredibly powerful family even more formidable by becoming a vessel for a Monarch while pregnant.

2. Sung Suho Isn’t as Strong as His Father, But He’s Just as OP

Sung Suho appears at the end of the original Solo Leveling story, after Sung Jinwoo travels back in time. He is the son of Sung Jinwoo and Cha Hae-In, and has inherited his father’s incredible strength, as well as the ability to use the System. By chapter 67 of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, Sung Suho’s stats are already higher at level 75 than Sung Jinwoo’s were at level 80.

Sung Suho isn’t as strong as his father yet, but he has the potential to become even more powerful. He’s already incredibly strong and fast, can withstand a lot of damage, and, like his father, can summon his own Shadow Army as the new Monarch of Shadows. Fans will be able to see his full power when Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is released in English on July 21, 2026.

1. Sung Jinwoo is One of the Most Overpowered Characters in Fiction

Honestly, Sung Jinwoo from Solo Leveling isn’t just strong, he’s on another level – easily the most powerful character in the whole series, and I’d put him up against almost anyone in fiction! What’s so cool is how he gets stronger. He has this ‘System’ that lets him level up like in a game, boosting his abilities and letting him collect awesome weapons. Plus, he earns money by defeating monsters, which he uses to buy even more powerful stuff. But the really amazing part? He’s a Necromancer, and can create this incredible army of ‘Shadows’ – basically super-powerful copies of himself – to fight for him. It’s just mind-blowing!

By the end of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, Sung Jinwoo has reached a point where he’s essentially immortal. His Shadow Army is incredibly powerful – at a national level – and he can easily close Gates on his own. He’s strong enough to fight multiple Outer Gods simultaneously and can even move faster than light. Considering his abilities and how much he’s grown, Sung Jinwoo is nearly unbeatable. He’s by far the most powerful S-Rank Hunter, and his strength surpasses anyone else in his world.
