One of LEGO’s Most Anticipated Sets of the Year Hit With a Delay

LEGO and Pokémon teamed up earlier this year, releasing three impressive LEGO sets. The initial collection featured everything from a classic Pikachu build to a large, $650 set showcasing Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard. While these Pokémon sets are exciting, many fans are even more eager for another upcoming set. However, it seems LEGO enthusiasts will have to wait a bit longer for its release.

A new report suggests the LEGO Pokeball set, which fans have been eagerly awaiting, has been pushed back to October due to issues with manufacturing. The set is rumored to be a buildable Pokeball that opens to reveal a miniature scene inside. It was initially expected to launch this summer, but now won’t be available until later in the year.

While many new LEGO Pokémon sets are expected in the coming months, most will be part of a line designed to work with the Smart Play system, featuring lights and sounds powered by a special ‘Smart Brick’. The set that was recently delayed generated a lot of excitement because it used sculpted figures – rather than Pokémon built from LEGO bricks – making it different from other sets.

Most LEGO sets use molded figures and minifigures to represent characters. These figures are typically similar in size – with a few exceptions like large characters – and have detailed designs that aren’t as blocky as regular LEGO bricks. While a character built from individual bricks might only look like the intended figure from up close, a molded figure or minifigure instantly resembles the character it’s meant to be.

What Minifigures Does the LEGO Pokeball Set Include?

Details about the LEGO Poké Ball set are still limited, but it’s currently the only set expected to include minifigures or sculpted Pokémon. We’ve seen a leaked image of a sculpted Eevee, and it’s likely a Pikachu will also be included. Beyond that, it’s hard to say which Pokémon might be in the set – perhaps characters like Ash or Red if it depicts a battle, but that’s just speculation.

Given the rumored $250 price tag, I’m hoping this LEGO set includes plenty of Pokémon minifigures. LEGO hasn’t been as generous with minifigures recently – the huge Lord of the Rings Minas Tirith set, for example, had fewer figures than the Rivendell set released a few years ago.

The most exciting part of this LEGO set will likely be the collectible Pokémon minifigures. Many fans were hoping for an earlier release, and the October timeframe is a bit disappointing, especially after hearing the rumors. However, there’s still plenty to look forward to, as more LEGO Pokémon sets are expected in the coming months. These include ‘Smart Play’ sets like the Scorbunny Evolution set and the Mewtwo Lab. Plus, for those who prefer traditional LEGO building, there are also other Pokémon sets planned, alongside the three that came out earlier this year.

I truly believe Pokémon is going to be a massive deal for LEGO, just like Minecraft and Mario were before it! While it’s a bit of a bummer we have to wait until 2026 to see the sets, I have a feeling once they start releasing, they’ll come out constantly – and my wallet is already bracing for impact! I can’t wait to start collecting them all.
