In Subnautica 2, gold is an important material used to build several helpful items, such as Thermal Plants, Advanced Wiring Kits, and Strong Acid.
Gold is primarily found in the lava biome, which is about 250 meters southeast of the Lifepod. You’ll need the Heat Tolerance Adaptation to safely explore this area.
How to Get Gold in Subnautica 2
| Distance from Lifepod | 350m |
|---|---|
| Direction from Lifepod | S-SE |
| Depth | 50-250m |
| Harvest Method | Hand / Sonic Resonator |
In Subnautica 2, you can find gold in the lava biome near volcanic vents, which are located 250 meters East-Southeast of your Lifepod. To survive in this area, you’ll need the Heat Tolerance adaptation. You get this by clearing the Bloom infestation from the Angel Comb, which is near the Blackbox – Wander signal.
After gaining heat resistance, you can safely enter the lava zone. From your Lifepod, head in the S-SE direction, aiming for the 120-degree marker on your compass. Swim straight for 250 meters, and watch the center of your screen. When you see a temperature warning appear, you’ll know you’ve reached the area.
The volcanic area is near the Chap Blackbox. If NoA has already highlighted the signal for it, you can just follow that signal to find it.
As you enter the hot zone, continue heading southeast for about 100 meters. Watch for large, dark coral formations – these are called Radiator Corals, as seen in the screenshot. Gold often appears on these corals and nearby.
Okay, so when I’m exploring, I need to keep an eye out for these shiny, golden spheres with holes in them – those are where the gold is! The big ones I can mine with my Sonic Resonator, but the smaller bits I can just break open or pick up directly. Easy enough!
Any time you see volcanic vents or black coral, gold is likely to spawn nearby.
How to Track Gold Location in Subnautica 2
The Scanner Station is a base upgrade you can unlock. Once built, it allows you to locate any resource, including gold, within a 300-meter radius. Finding gold becomes simple once you know the general areas, but other resources can be much harder to track down.
After you’ve sorted out power and storage, building a Scanner Station at any base in Subnautica 2 should be one of your first tasks.
