How to Unlock the Rebreather in Subnautica 2

Subnautica 2 increases the challenge by requiring players to carefully manage their oxygen supply while exploring underwater. This makes finding ways to extend your underwater time extremely helpful – and almost necessary – to advance in the game. You’ll be venturing further from your safe starting point and investigating shipwrecks that don’t provide much oxygen, so staying alive longer is crucial.

The Rebreather lets you stay underwater longer, but you’ll need both the Repair Tool and Sonic Resonator to locate and scan all four parts required to craft it.

Scan Four Rebreathers

To get the blueprint for the Rebreather, you need to locate and scan four different Rebreathers. You can find two north of your Lifepod and two to the south. I was exploring the southern part of the map when I found these, so the first two locations listed here are in that area. If you start in the north, it’s best to get those two pieces first, but you’ll need the Sonic Resonator and Repair Tool to scan them.

Piece 1 is roughly 300 meters south and slightly east of the Lifepod. It’s near Chap’s Black Box – use that as a landmark, and continue past it to find some wreckage on the ground. The Rebreather is inside an open container. Scan it to get your first recipe fragment.

Piece 2 is now located west of Piece 1 – about 280 meters south of the Lifepod and then heading west. You’ll find a lot of wreckage there. From the wreckage, turn north. Look for a bunker hatch built into the rocky cliff face; it’s hard to see, so keep a close watch. This bunker is where you can scan the Rebreather, and you can also upgrade your inventory using the Biobed inside.

To find Piece 3, head north from the Lifepod, about 300 meters, and then go west. It’s located inside the large wreckage, but you’ll need the Sonic Resonator to get in. Swim around the outside until you find a small rectangular opening with glowing plants. Use the Sonic Resonator to break through, which will let you enter the wreck and find the Rebreather after navigating the air ducts.

Piece 4 is located east of Piece 3, roughly 400 meters northeast of the Lifepod. You’ll find another large piece of wreckage here. To enter, swim under the wreckage and find the area with two broken doors. Use the Repair Tool on one of the doors to open it, and you’ll find the final Rebreather just inside to the left.

Craft the Rebreather

Once you’ve scanned all four parts, you can build the Rebreather using your Fabricator. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 System Chip
  • 2 Fiber Mesh

The Rebreather will let you stay underwater much longer, which is really helpful when playing Subnautica 2.
