Games where you build and automate factories are popping up all over Steam, with many small studios trying to create the next big hit like Satisfactory or Factorio. While it’s hard to reach the same level of success as those games, simply nailing the satisfying core gameplay – building, problem-solving, and automation – with a unique twist can still get a game noticed. If you enjoy that feeling of getting lost in automation, especially in a new sci-fi world, Starminer on Steam is definitely worth checking out. And you won’t have to wait long, as it’s launching into early access soon.

Players begin by gathering resources from asteroids, much like in No Man’s Sky. After mining these asteroids, they can either sell the materials they find or use them to upgrade their base. Players can also send mercenary fleets on missions to collect even more resources. If a sector runs out of materials, they can build link gates to jump to new areas, mine those, and expand their base with advanced technology.

Okay, so this isn’t one of those super chill factory builders where you can just zone out. You’ve gotta watch your back! While I’m busy building and optimizing my factory, I also need to keep an eye on heat. If things get too hot, too quickly, it attracts unwanted attention – hostile aliens! They’ll come after everything I’ve built, so if I’m planning a massive factory, I have to build up defenses first. Think turrets to blast those space invaders before they ruin all my hard work.

I’m really excited about Starminer, and like most games in early access on Steam, it’s going to get even bigger and better! The developers plan to add more units, building options, and tweak how things work based on what players like. They’ve said the price will go up when the full game comes out, which is fair considering all the improvements. But even right now, in early access, there’s a ton to do! There’s a tutorial to get you started, a full campaign, a survival mode where you really have to think on your feet, and a sandbox mode for just building whatever you want. Honestly, whether you love watching epic space battles or just enjoy the satisfaction of building complex systems piece by piece, Starminer has something for you.
