Naruto Uzumaki, the Seventh Hokage, was sealed away in chapter 77 of Boruto back in January 2023. After more than three years, and with the recent end of the Mamushi arc and the start of a new story in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 34 (scheduled for release on May 20, 2026, in Shueisha’s V-Jump magazine), his return is finally happening. Fans have been waiting a long time to see Naruto back in action, and creators Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto are bringing him back as only two Shinju remain. His return feels closer than ever.
Boruto’s Latest Mamushi Arc Conclusion Finally Brings Naruto Uzumaki’s Return In The Picture
When Boruto: Two Blue Vortex started in August 2023, Naruto Uzumaki was trapped in another dimension. Kawaki had sealed him away, and with threats from the Otsutsuki clan, including Boruto, still active, Naruto’s rescue seemed distant. However, chapter 24 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex changed things after Boruto and Kawaki defeated Jura. Jura revealed he wanted to devour Naruto and confirmed the Seventh Hokage was still alive. This development directly connected Jura’s story to Naruto’s and opened the door for Naruto’s potential return.
Jura recently learned about the Seventh Hokage’s death while visiting Konoha, but seeing Kawaki, he believes Naruto Uzumaki must still be alive.
The next arc of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex will heavily feature the character Jura, following the recent defeat of Mamushi. With Jura taking center stage, the possibility of Naruto’s return is becoming increasingly likely – a prospect that’s both exciting and concerning for fans. While everyone would be thrilled to see Naruto back, Jura intends to harm him, being dangerously obsessed with Naruto Uzumaki and everything he stands for. In fact, Jura might even try to completely absorb Naruto, making the Seventh Hokage a real target for this incredibly powerful enemy.
I watched as Jura spoke, and his words were… unsettling. He admitted he wasn’t a good liar, then confessed something truly bizarre – a desire to, well, consume Naruto Uzumaki. It was clear he knew it would bother me, but he said it anyway.
Why Jura’s Plotline Is Directly Tied To Naruto Uzumaki’s Return In Two Blue Vortex
The latest arc of Boruto: Two Blue Vertex starts this month. A preview of a new character was released on the official website, naruto-official.com, on May 18th. The story is now moving away from the Mamushi storyline and focusing on the other villains. Jura and Hidari often work together as a team and frequently take on missions side-by-side. It’s likely they will both travel to Konoha, where Jura might try to locate Naruto Uzumaki.
Jura is fixated on Naruto because of his deep understanding of love. Among all the human emotions in the Boruto world, Jura values love the most, and he sees Naruto Uzumaki, the Seventh Hokage, as the ultimate example of it. Naruto showed Kawaki what love meant after rescuing him from Jigen, and now Jura’s sole purpose is to find him. Considering Jura’s power, no one in the Boruto universe is capable of standing in his way.
Author Mikio Ikemoto cleverly connects Jura’s storyline to Naruto, and this also increases the pressure on Kawaki. Kawaki has already sealed Naruto away to protect him and eliminate the dangerous Otsutsuki clan. Now, with a threat like Jura specifically targeting Naruto, Kawaki has a strong personal motivation to become even more powerful and do everything he can to defend the Seventh Hokage.
This development gives Kawaki a compelling personal journey and strengthens his character. It also makes Jura a more significant threat, and it’s becoming clear that Naruto will play a key role in the upcoming conflict between these two characters.

Assessing The Return Date Of Naruto Uzumaki In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex
Currently, there’s no confirmed date for Naruto Uzumaki’s return. Both Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto haven’t shared any details about what happens to Naruto or when he’ll be back. He made a quick appearance at the start of the Two Blue Vortex arc, inside Daikokuten’s dimension, but his future remains unclear. However, the beginning of the story suggests that Kawaki will eventually be able to protect the Seventh Hokage from Jura, meaning fans can rest assured that Naruto won’t be dying anytime soon.
You studied under my dad, and honestly, it would be best if you were freed so he could train you himself. But that’s just not going to happen. — Boruto Uzumaki to Kawaki, Two Blue Vortex Chapter 15
As far as his return goes, the author can take this plotline in two directions:
- Naruto Uzumaki can return at the end of the next arc, provided both Jura and Hidari fall in the same arc, as Ryu and Matsuri fell in the Land of Wind arc.
- In the second scenario, Naruto fans will have to wait for one more arc to see their beloved Seventh Hokage return. In this case, Hidari would be the one to fall first in the next arc, and then, all the focus would go to Jura, the last remaining Shinju whose end would officially trigger the final sequence of the story and bring back the Seventh Hokage for good.
While there’s no official date, based on the typical length of story arcs (8 to 15 chapters each), we can estimate Naruto’s return is about 30 chapters away.
Currently, Sasuke has been transformed into a Tree, and his genetic material was used to create Hidari, one of the most powerful Shinju. Once Hidari is defeated and the Thorn Soul Bulb is secured, Sasuke will be able to return to normal. The current storyline in Boruto is already building towards his comeback, and fans can likely expect to see Sasuke Uchiha back in action within the next 10 to 15 chapters in the Two Blue Vortex arc. This is thrilling news for fans and increases the possibility of Naruto’s return as well. While the wait is ongoing, recent events have firmly put both Naruto and Sasuke’s comebacks back on track, making these developments very promising.
I’m so excited! The next chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Chapter 34, is officially coming out in the next issue of V-Jump on May 20, 2026! And the best part is, we’ll be able to read it through Viz Media and Manga Plus, so it’s super accessible!
