Embracer “Actively Exploring” Partnerships for Franchises Like Deus Ex, Saints Row

Embracer Group is planning to make Fellowship Entertainment an independent company. Fellowship Entertainment holds the rights to many of Embracer’s popular game franchises, such as Saints Row, Deus Ex, and Red Faction. Embracer has stated it is currently looking for partners to collaborate on these games.

Founded in 2011, Embracer Group is a Swedish media company made up of several core divisions, including THQ Nordic, Plaion, Dark Horse Media, Crystal Dynamics Entertainment, Freemode, and DECA Games. Recently, Embracer spun off two companies – Coffee Stain, which focuses on independent game development and publishing, and Asmodee, which handles board game production. Now, Embracer has announced plans for a third separate company.

Embracer Is Actively Exploring External Partnerships for Some Major IPs

Okay, so Embracer Group just announced they’re spinning off a new company called Fellowship Entertainment. Basically, they created Fellowship last year to hold all their game IPs, and now they’re planning to list it on the Nasdaq in 2027. The head of Embracer, Lars Wingefors, said they’re doing this to really focus on maximizing the potential of their games. He thinks being a separate company will make it easier for investors to understand what they’re all about and attract more investment from around the world. It sounds like they want to give these games the attention – and funding – they deserve!

Lars Wingefors, Embracer Group’s largest shareholder, believes the company’s extensive library of game IPs is currently worth far more than its current valuation. He feels it’s his responsibility to unlock that potential by improving how these games are developed and released. His plan includes releasing at least two games each year starting in 2027/2028, using new technologies like AI, and giving the project more focused leadership.

As a big gaming fan, I’m really excited to see what Embracer Group is planning! They’re already doing great things with Lord of the Rings and Tomb Raider, but they’re also looking at bringing back some classic franchises. They’re considering investing in games based on titles like Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Dead Island, Remnant, Darksiders, and Metro, and are even open to partnerships to make it happen. But it doesn’t stop there! They’re actively seeking partners for other beloved IPs like Saints Row, Legacy of Kain, Deus Ex, Red Faction, The Mask, Thief, and TimeSplitters too. It’s not a promise of new games right away, but the fact that they’re looking for external help means there’s a real chance we might see these franchises revived, which is awesome!

Embracer Comments on 2023 Layoffs

Embracer Group chairman Lars Wingefors used a recent open letter to discuss the ongoing layoffs and studio closures the company has faced since June 2023. He stated:

We understand some people may associate us with job cuts, but we’ve truly done everything we could to keep our team intact during a challenging time. When we made significant changes in 2023, we chose not to implement large-scale layoffs. Instead, we gave our studios and projects an opportunity to demonstrate their potential. We are continuously adapting to the evolving entertainment landscape after the pandemic to ensure long-term success.
