Even after some adjustments to reduce kickback, Light Machine Guns (LMGs) still perform well in their designed role. If you’re hoping to use an LMG as your primary weapon in Battlefield 6, this guide will compare all of them to help you choose the best one for how you play.

Rather than compare all light machine guns directly, I’ve organized them by their effective ranges and how they’re meant to be used. This is important because weapon performance in BF6 depends heavily on the situation. These explanations should help you understand how each LMG stacks up against others, as well as against assault rifles.
DRS-IAR
The DRS-IAR is essentially an assault rifle reclassified as a Light Machine Gun, and it’s been widely considered the best LMG in Battlefield 6 for a long time. Players love it for its quick time-to-kill and generally good handling. What makes this gun special is how well it utilizes Battlefield 6’s customization options – with the right attachments, it can be tailored to fit any playstyle.
The DRS-IAR is incredibly versatile. You can build it to be a precise, stable weapon for a rifleman role, or a fast-moving assault weapon – it excels at both. No other light machine gun offers this level of flexibility. While other LMGs can be modified for different purposes, the DRS-IAR is simply superior due to its well-rounded stats.
M250
While the M250 isn’t as customizable as the DRS-IAR, it hits incredibly hard, and maintains that power at any range. It can reliably defeat an enemy player with just four shots to the chest, making it a versatile weapon despite its bulky feel.
The update in Season 3 reduced the M250’s long-range accuracy, but it can still be useful for stopping snipers or as a substitute for a designated marksman rifle if you prioritize recoil control. It’s important to remember that this weapon feels heavy and cumbersome, so while it’s effective up close, it’s not suited for fast-paced, run-and-gun combat due to its slow aiming speed. You’ll likely be eliminated before you can even get a clear shot. If you’re looking for a lighter weapon with similar damage, the M277 Carbine is a better choice.
M240L
The M240L is a powerful weapon that trades long-range accuracy for incredible close-quarters damage. Unlike its counterpart, the L110, it excels at eliminating entire groups of enemies within a 50-meter radius. It can quickly down an opponent with just three chest shots from 20 meters away, and remains effective at longer ranges, reliably killing players with four shots up to 75 meters.
This light machine gun performs very similarly to the M250 in terms of overall effectiveness. While the M250 excels at maintaining accuracy over long distances, the M240L is more powerful at close range. Both guns have comparable recoil, so the best choice depends on your preferred playstyle and the situation.
L110
Okay, so the L110 is the first Light Machine Gun you get in BF6, and honestly, it’s super versatile. It feels a little clunky at first, but the cool thing is, you can customize it with attachments to make it amazing in pretty much any situation. I’ve built it for close-quarters combat, long-range sniping, and everything in between – it really does it all!
The L110 doesn’t really stand out, but it’s surprisingly effective on every map in Battlefield 6 and consistently performs well. I wasn’t a fan of it at first, but after some updates to the gun and other LMGs, I think it’s found its place as a solid weapon in the current Battlefield meta.

RPKM
Of the mid-range Light Machine Guns in the game, the RPKM performs best at longer distances, especially when it comes to how it handles while firing. It’s the most effective LMG for quickly eliminating enemies from around 75 meters away, mainly because it has very little recoil.
The RPKM is one of the slowest weapons for taking down enemies due to its low rate of fire. Although it deals the same 33 damage as the M240L, this damage is only effective up to about 8 meters. I think it would be more accurately categorized as a long-range Light Machine Gun in the game, but inaccurate weapon classifications aren’t uncommon.
M123K
Okay, so using the M123K up close is just… overkill. Seriously, it feels like I’m bringing a chainsaw to a knife fight! It hits about as hard as the M433, which everyone agrees is a top-tier close-range assault rifle. But, it is a light machine gun, so I have to deal with all the usual LMG stuff – the bigger recoil, slower handling, you know the drill.
I used to say the M123K was a simple upgrade from the L110, but changes to how these guns recoil have made it clear that the M123K is best for close-quarters combat. It excels in small rooms and tight hallways, but its accuracy drops significantly at distances over 40 meters, leading to a lot of missed shots.
M121 A2
Honestly, the M121 A2 feels a lot like a faster-shooting M240L. The increased fire rate is great up close – it can take down enemies really quickly within 20 meters – and it’s still decent at longer ranges. But, and this is a bit annoying, it gets harder to control past 40 meters. It’s not a huge difference, but the extra recoil makes it bounce around more, so hitting those distant shots is tougher than with the M240L. Basically, it trades some long-range accuracy for a higher rate of fire.
M60
In Battlefield 6, the M60 is likely the most adaptable Long-Range Light Machine Gun. It’s more reliable at medium and long distances (75 meters and beyond) than the M250 or M240L due to its manageable recoil and consistent firing speed. Even up close, within 20 meters, its powerful bullets can quickly eliminate enemies, despite its relatively slower rate of fire.
The M60 is surprisingly adaptable. Adding a short barrel, a 50-round loose belt, and a smaller grip significantly improves its aiming speed, while still allowing you to effectively engage enemies at long distances. Simply put, the M60 is a fantastic weapon – you should definitely give it a shot.
KTS100
The KTS100 is the best long-range automatic weapon in BF6. It’s not only powerful, but incredibly accurate and has virtually no recoil. It’s easy to use – simply find a good vantage point and hold down the trigger. The KTS100 does all the work for you, letting you easily hit enemies from a distance.
While the KTS100 offers benefits, it’s not without trade-offs. It fires at the same rate as the M60, but deals slightly less damage, meaning it takes one extra bullet to eliminate an enemy at any distance. Because of this, it’s important to pay attention to how much damage decreases over range and to fight at distances where the KTS100 performs best. If you’re facing someone with a faster firing weapon, you’ll likely be defeated before you can get enough shots off.
RPK-74M
The RPK-74M falls between the M60 and KTS100 in terms of overall performance. While it doesn’t have the same stopping power as the M60, it’s also not as simple to operate as the KTS100. This light machine gun is accurate enough to hit a target with a full burst from over 75 meters, but its low damage means shots often feel weak and ineffective.
The RPK-74M and the DRS-IAR are quite similar, as both started as support weapons before being adapted as assault rifles. While it’s easier to handle than the DRS, the RPK-74M’s low damage means you’ll likely be outmatched by most other guns in Battlefield 6 at close to medium ranges – assuming your opponent is accurate.
If you’re looking for a way to effectively use the RPK-74M in Battlefield 6 at close range, this hipfire setup might be worth a try. It’s a bit unconventional, but it can actually work surprisingly well.
