Many apps on the Apple App Store can be expensive, especially when you subscribe. While monthly payments are common, annual subscriptions often save you money overall, but require a large upfront payment. Now, Apple is making things easier by letting users pay for annual subscriptions month-by-month instead.

This new subscription option offers a compromise between paying monthly and committing to an annual plan. However, be aware that you’ll be required to use the service for a full 12 months, meaning you’ll be billed every month for the duration of the commitment.

Apple is making app payments more flexible. Instead of paying a large yearly fee all at once, you can now spread the cost into twelve monthly installments. This means you can enjoy the benefits of an annual subscription without having to pay for the whole year upfront.

Apple has designed this system to be user-friendly. You can quickly see your payment history and how many payments you have remaining. Plus, you’ll receive a reminder before your subscription renews next year.

Here’s the catch: you’re committed to this payment plan for a full year. If you cancel your subscription, you’ll still have to pay the remaining instalments until all twelve are covered. There’s no way to cancel early, and you won’t receive any refunds, even if you cancel right away.

Be careful when signing up for yearly subscriptions. Make sure you understand the terms and are happy with the app, because you’re legally obligated to pay the full amount even if you stop using it.

This feature will be available in the next iOS update, version 26.4, which is scheduled to release in early May.
