Berserk Fans Have Another Chance to Snag an Iconic Guts Model

Good Smile Company is now taking preorders for a detailed figure of Guts from Berserk in his powerful Beast of Darkness form, wearing his iconic Berserker armor. This rerelease is a response to high demand from fans, who loved the original Plamatea model for its great quality and affordable price. Berserk has remained incredibly popular around the world for almost 40 years since it first appeared in Monthly Animal House magazine, and is celebrated for its immersive world, compelling story, memorable characters, and stunning artwork.

Kentaro Miura’s celebrated manga series, Berserk, has been a bestseller for decades, selling over 70 million copies. This puts it in the same league as popular series like Rurouni Kenshin, Major, Fairy Tail, and Gintama. The 1997 anime adaptation was very successful, but the 2016 series, with 24 episodes, received criticism for its computer-generated imagery, music, and camera angles. However fans experience it, the character of Guts, the wandering swordsman, remains a well-known figure in Japanese culture, and this rerelease is a great opportunity to own the series.

Fans of the manga Berserk were deeply saddened by the unexpected death of its creator, Kentaro Miura, in 2021 at the age of 54. He passed away from a sudden aortic dissection. Miura’s work continues to have a significant impact on manga, anime, film, and video games. His main character, Guts, has inspired popular figures like Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7 and Dante from Devil May Cry, while the overall look and feel of Berserk heavily influenced the Dark Souls series. Numerous manga artists, including Kazue Kato (Blue Exorcist), Yana Toboso (Black Butler), and Yuki Tabata (Black Clover), have acknowledged Miura’s work as a key inspiration.

After the tragic passing of its creator, Kentaro Miura, fans worried about the fate of the manga Berserk. However, the series will continue, with Miura’s close friend and fellow manga artist, Kouji Mori, taking over in June 2022. The two met in high school, and Miura credited their friendship as the basis for the complex relationship between Guts and Griffith. Mori has reassured fans that he will stay true to Miura’s vision, only writing the story arcs Miura had already discussed with him. While acknowledging it won’t be flawless, Mori believes he can faithfully complete the story Miura intended.
