If I’m hopping into Battlefield 6 and want a solid all-rounder, I usually grab an Assault Rifle. They’re perfect for most fights, letting me deal good damage at medium and long ranges without feeling weak up close. Some ARs really shine in specific situations – a few are beasts in close quarters, while others are sniper-accurate at long distances. I’ve put together a guide to the best Assault Rifles in BF6 so you can figure out which one fits your playstyle and dominates in any scenario.
Best Assault Rifles in BF6 Overview

In Battlefield 6, weapons are designed to perform best at specific distances, so I’ve grouped the Assault Rifles into three categories based on their effective range. This will help you easily compare weapons and understand their strengths and weaknesses.
M16A4
The M16A4 returned to its place as the top Assault Rifle in Battlefield 2042 with Season 3, surpassing even its performance in Battlefield 3. It wasn’t necessarily the fastest gun to kill, but its biggest strength was how well it performed in any situation. It’s a dependable weapon at all distances, and though other guns might be better beyond 40 meters, it remains incredibly powerful, especially in close to medium-range combat.
With the M16A4, it generally takes four shots to eliminate an enemy at close range (up to 20 meters), and six shots at medium range (up to 75 meters). Considering its fast firing rate of 771 rounds per minute and manageable recoil, this weapon is competitive against most other primary guns in the game.
The M16A4 initially fires in short bursts, but you can modify it to fire continuously once you obtain the A3 Receiver attachment.
B36A4
The B36A4 is like a more user-friendly version of the M16A4. While both guns deal the same amount of damage, the B36A4 fires a little slower but has much better control. It doesn’t shake as much when firing automatically, making it a good option for players who want a weapon that’s easier to handle, even after a small recoil adjustment in Season 3.
The B36A4 assault rifle in BF6 is remarkably well-rounded – it doesn’t really have any significant weaknesses. While it’s not exceptional in any one area and can be outmatched by more specialized guns, a skilled player can still be very effective with it.
M433
Okay, so the M433 is the first assault rifle you get in BF6, and honestly, it’s way better than I expected! A lot of new players start with it, but it can seriously hang with any other gun at close to medium range – like, up to 50 meters. What really sets it apart is how well it does in close-quarters combat. It fires super fast – 830 rounds per minute – and each bullet does a solid 25 damage. Plus, the damage doesn’t even start to drop off until you’re about 21 meters away, which is awesome!
The M433 can still be effective at medium distances (over 20 meters) with the right setup. However, because of its fast and somewhat unpredictable recoil, players will need to fire in short bursts to maintain accuracy at longer ranges.
NVO-228E
The NVO remains a solid weapon in Season 3, with its strengths and weaknesses largely unchanged from previous seasons. It excels in close-quarters combat, similar to the M433, and can quickly eliminate opponents with just three chest shots. While still effective at medium range, its slower firing rate and some accuracy issues make it less reliable against targets beyond 40 meters.
Remember, the NVO’s one-burst-kill ability only works up close – within 8 meters. To really get the most out of this weapon, you’ll need to play aggressively and get right in the action.
Kord 6P67
Unlike the NVO, the Kord excels at medium range. While it deals less damage per bullet than other assault rifles (only 20 damage), it makes up for this with incredibly low recoil and a very fast firing rate of 900 rounds per minute. This combination allows skilled players to maintain a consistent stream of accurate fire at medium distances, where other weapons might become inaccurate or require controlled bursts.
The Kord is best at medium-range combat, but it can also handle close-quarters battles reasonably well. However, if you’re facing any of the weapons we just discussed, you’ll likely be at a disadvantage.
TR-7
The TR-7 is considered one of the best close-quarters combat (CQB) assault rifles. It deals significant damage – 33 points – and can quickly eliminate enemies with just three hits to the chest, up to a range of 20 meters. However, the TR-7 has a major drawback: it’s incredibly difficult to control due to its strong recoil. Even with attachments, it kicks powerfully, and updates in Season 3 made this recoil even worse, making it almost unusable at longer ranges.
The TR-7 is a really powerful weapon when used skillfully, and I think it’s the best assault rifle for close-quarters combat in Battlefield 6. However, to truly excel with it, you’ll need to focus exclusively on close-range engagements, which can be difficult on larger maps like Railway to Golmud.
VCR-2
The VCR-2 was once the best Assault Rifle in Battlefield 6, but it’s become much harder to use after a recent adjustment in Season 3. It currently feels like the worst gun to shoot in the game. While it still does similar damage to the TR-7, its unpredictable recoil makes it very difficult to hit targets, especially at distances over 20 meters or those who are taking cover.
AK4D
The AK4D is similar to a less powerful TR-7, much like the B36A4 is to the M16A4. In close-quarters combat, it’s the fourth-fastest-killing assault rifle, able to eliminate enemies with just three shots within 20 meters. Beyond that range, it still takes only four shots to the chest to take down a target up to 75 meters away. While the gun has a strong recoil, its consistent fire rate helps you stay on target.
The AK4D also has significant bullet spread, so for long-distance shots, it’s best to fire in short, two-round bursts to stay accurate.
SOR-556
The SOR-556 is a very accurate assault rifle with hardly any recoil – even less than the Kord. Of the three long-range assault rifles in its class, it maintains the best accuracy when firing continuously, making it ideal for players who prefer to stay back and shoot at enemies from a distance.
The SOR-556 is noticeably slow when firing, making it one of the least effective weapons in the game for quickly defeating opponents. In close-range combat, it will likely lose to anyone with good aim, and even at longer distances, weapons like the Kord might outperform it. I’d only suggest using this gun if you prefer a low-skill option, and even then, you’ll need to play stealthily and only engage unsuspecting enemies.
L85A3
The L85A3 rifle falls somewhere between the SOR-556 and the AK4D in terms of performance. It’s perfectly adequate, but it doesn’t have any standout features like those other two weapons. The L85A3 is just generally solid in all areas, though it’s debatable whether that’s enough to make it a top contender.
The L85A3’s effectiveness depends on how accurately you aim and the overall situation in the game. Like the SOR-556, it’s not a great choice for head-on fights. While it can be powerful and often feels more effective than the SOR-556 due to its quicker kill time, it’s difficult to justify using it when the B36A4 is available.
