Bungie has announced that the next major update for Destiny 2, originally called Shadow and Justice, is now scheduled to release on June 9, 2026, and will have a new title. While once a leading live-service game, Destiny 2 has faced criticism recently. Many players have expressed frustration with Bungie’s choices, feeling the game isn’t moving in a positive direction.
Following the somewhat divisive release of the Renegades update in Destiny 2, players eagerly awaited news on the next update, Shadow and Order. It was initially planned to launch on March 2, 2026, as outlined in the Year of Prophecy roadmap. However, in January 2026, Paul Tassi of Forbes reported, based on his sources, that the release had been pushed back with no new date announced. Bungie remained silent on the matter, leaving fans wondering what was happening with the update.
Destiny 2 Shadow and Order Update Officially Delayed
Bungie announced on Twitter that the Destiny 2 update, originally called Shadows and Order, will now launch on June 9, 2026. They’re making significant changes and improvements to the update, including several quality-of-life features, and will also be giving it a new name. Bungie promises to share more information closer to the updated release date.
Alongside the update, players will learn more about Weapon Tier Upgrading, and can look forward to new features like Pantheon 2.0 and Tier 5 Stats for Exotic Armor. Throughout June, Bungie will continue releasing bug fixes, performance improvements, and new portal modifiers. Plus, the Guardian Games will return in March, and Iron Banner will be back on its regular schedule in April.
Bungie is revising its Shadow and Order update for Destiny 2, and it’s important to remember they’re also launching a new game, Marathon, on March 5th. Marathon has already faced some issues, including accusations of copied artwork and setbacks in development. With this big launch so close, Bungie likely wants to focus players’ attention on Marathon and delaying the Destiny 2 update could help ensure it gets the spotlight it needs.
Despite a lot of criticism about how Bungie has been running Destiny 2, it looks like they’re paying attention to what players are saying. The latest update fixed several long-standing bugs and glitches. While some believe Destiny 3 is being made, players are currently hoping the new Shadows and Order update will improve Destiny 2.
