The Legendary Super Saiyan is the most powerful form a Saiyan can achieve in Dragon Ball. Unlike transformations gained through fusion, only one Saiyan per universe can become a Legendary Super Saiyan. These Saiyans possess incredible strength and continuously grow more powerful as they battle.
Fighting a Legendary Super Saiyan at their peak strength is almost always fatal, and only the most powerful beings in the entire multiverse have a chance of winning. Legendary Super Saiyans are incredibly strong, so very few characters in Dragon Ball have ever managed to defeat one. While Kale, Kefla, and Broly are among the strongest characters in Dragon Ball history, they aren’t unbeatable.
5. Jiren One-Shots Legendary Super Saiyan Kale in the Dragon Ball Super Anime
Kale is a powerful fighter from Universe 6 who achieved the Legendary Super Saiyan transformation before anyone else in the official Dragon Ball Super storyline. During the Tournament of Power, she transforms and becomes uncontrollably destructive. The Dragon Ball Super manga shows Kale defeating more opponents than any other character and even eliminating fighters from three different universes.
In Dragon Ball Super, Kale, in her Legendary Super Saiyan form, easily overpowers Goku. However, her winning streak ends when she encounters Jiren, who defeats her with just one energy blast. This blast reverts Kale back to her normal state. After regaining her composure, Kale and Caulifla decide to fuse using the Potara earrings, creating the powerful warrior Kefla.
4. Ultra Instinct Sign Goku Defeats Legendary Super Saiyan 2 Kefla in the Anime’s Tournament of Power
Kefla is an incredibly powerful Saiyan in the Dragon Ball series, and one of the strongest fusion characters ever created. The anime version of Kefla is significantly stronger than the version shown in the manga, which couldn’t even beat Ultimate Gohan. In fact, anime Kefla is so powerful that she forces Goku to use Ultra Instinct Sign for a second time, placing her on the same level as Jiren. Additionally, because Caulifla achieves Super Saiyan 2 in the anime, Kefla can also transform into Legendary Super Saiyan 2.
Ultimately, Kefla isn’t strong enough to defeat Ultra Instinct. During their battle, Goku gets much better at using Ultra Instinct Sign, easily dodging Kefla’s attacks and building up a huge amount of energy. When Kefla unleashes her strongest attack, Goku skillfully counters by charging a Kamehameha, riding the wave of her blast, and then blasting her with the full force of his attack, knocking her out of the tournament. It’s worth noting that this is the only official version of the Dragon Ball Super story where Goku defeats a Legendary Super Saiyan.
3. Gohan is the Only Dragon Ball Character Who’s Beaten Two Legendary Super Saiyans
Currently, Gohan is the most powerful Z-Fighter in Dragon Ball Super. He’s uniquely defeated two Legendary Super Saiyans, a feat that only appears in the Dragon Ball Super manga. In the manga’s Tournament of Power arc, Gohan fights Kefla instead of Goku, who concentrates all his energy on battling Jiren. Kefla in the manga doesn’t achieve the full potential of the Legendary Super Saiyan form, making her power level comparable to Gohan’s Ultimate form. Their fight ends in a draw, with both fighters knocking each other out simultaneously.
Although the fight ended in a technical tie, Gohan is considered the winner because Universe 6 was eliminated after Kefla’s defeat. In Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103, Gohan Beast easily dominates a sparring match with Broly, even pushing him to reach his Full Power Super Saiyan form. While the fight is interrupted by Goten, Trunks, and Vegeta who start their own battle, it’s clear Gohan would have ultimately won. Even without the interruption, Gohan Beast was significantly stronger than Broly and would have emerged victorious.
2. Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta Destroyed Legendary Super Saiyan Broly
Broly’s power increases at an incredible rate, quickly surpassing both Goku and Vegeta after he transforms into his Legendary Super Saiyan state. Unable to defeat him directly, they seek out Piccolo to learn the Fusion Dance, hoping to create Gogeta – a tremendously powerful warrior from Dragon Ball Super. Gogeta effortlessly fights Broly, progressively increasing his own power levels from his base form, to Super Saiyan, and finally Super Saiyan Blue, all while gauging just how strong Broly has become.
Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta is incredibly powerful, strong enough to tear through the universe itself and momentarily send both himself and Broly to a strange dimension outside of space and time. He completely overwhelms Legendary Super Saiyan Broly, reducing him to a state of fear. Had Cheelai not wished for Broly to be sent back to Vampa using the Dragon Balls, Gogeta would have defeated him with a devastating Limit Ultra Kamehameha.

1. Whis Made a Mockery of Broly Fighting at Full Power
Once Broly’s power overwhelms Goku and Vegeta, they teleport him to Piccolo. However, Broly then focuses his attack on Frieza, relentlessly beating him for about an hour before turning his attention to Whis. Whis is an incredibly powerful Angel, one of the strongest beings in the universe, but due to his role, he’s forbidden from directly fighting or intervening in conflicts between mortals – though he doesn’t actually need to.
Whis easily avoided all of Broly’s attacks. He could have ended the fight immediately, but doing so would have erased Broly from existence. While Whis didn’t actually fight back, it’s clear Broly lost – he started a battle he had no chance of winning and couldn’t even hit his opponent.
