What Ho, Key Highlights!
- Dune, in a move as bold as a Bertie Wooster scheme, has given the old heave-ho to 25% of its staff, all in the name of “restructuring” and “focusing on core data products.” Jolly good show, what?
- The chaps are pivoting to AI tools, apparently, and aiming to charm the socks off big financial institutions moving onchain. Pip pip!
- Layoffs, it seems, are all the rage in crypto and tech, with companies trimming the fat while puffing out their chests about AI. Rather like Jeeves explaining the merits of a well-pressed trouser.
Well, I say, old bean, Dune, that on-chain data platform, has gone and done a spot of spring cleaning, chucking out 25% of its workforce in a jolly major restructuring. Dash it all, it’s enough to make one spill one’s tea.
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter, don’t you know), Co-Founder and CEO Fredrik Haga-a chap who clearly knows his way around a spreadsheet-explained that the current goal is to focus more on their main data products. “We’re restructuring Dune to sharpen our focus around the core data products thousands of customers across the crypto industry rely on,” he trilled, adding with a touch of regret that 25% of the team had been given the old order of the boot.
We’re restructuring Dune to sharpen our focus around the core data products thousands of customers across the crypto industry rely on. That unfortunately means we’ve let 25% of the team go this week. These are exceptional people I can wholeheartedly recommend – ping me if you’re in the market for top-notch talent.

Focusing on core data products, what?
Haga, ever the visionary, highlighted Dune MCP, a new AI-powered system that allows users and AI agents to create dashboards and fiddle with data without needing to know SQL or complex data systems. Rather like giving a chap a top-notch valet without requiring him to know how to tie a cravat. According to Haga, this reflects Dune’s push to make AI a core part of its data tools while simplifying how users interact with blockchain data. Capital idea, eh?
He added that the firm is focusing on two main areas. First, artificial intelligence, which is being added to their tools to make data as easy to use as a Jeeves-prepared breakfast. Second, the rise of institutions entering blockchain markets-traditional finance players dealing in stocks, bonds, and whatnot, slowly moving onto blockchain networks. Dune, it seems, is rolling out the red carpet for these bigwigs.
Even with the job cuts, Haga assured everyone that the company is as financially sound as a Wooster after a windfall. Plenty of funding to keep the show on the road, old sport.
Wider industry shift toward AI, don’t you know
Dune joins a growing number of crypto and tech companies that have reduced staff while tooting their horns about AI tools. Earlier this year, Block, led by Jack Dorsey, gave a large number of jobs the chop, claiming AI helped workers do more with fewer bodies. Crypto.com followed suit, pointing to similar efficiency gains from AI. Rather like replacing a butler with a mechanical valet-efficient, but one does miss the personal touch.
Coinbase and Gemini have also trimmed their teams during restructuring phases. Some critics have argued that AI is being used as a convenient excuse for layoffs, while others see it as a genuine shift in how companies operate. Much like the debate over whether a martini should be shaken or stirred-opinions vary wildly.
Haga, ever the optimist, said Dune has weathered many a market storm over the years and remains as stable as a Jeeves under pressure. Even after the layoffs, the company will press on with a smaller team focused on AI and institutional growth. No word on when they might start hiring again, but their direction is clear: automation, data tools, and wooing bigger financial players into the blockchain space.
So there you have it, old bean. Dune’s AI gambit-25% fewer staff, 100% more irony. Pip pip!
