Games Done Quick (GDQ), the well-known video game speedrunning group, is coming to Europe for the first time ever! The event was just announced and will be part of gamescom 2026, which is the biggest gaming convention in the world.
Gamescom isn’t until late August 2026, but now’s a good time to start making plans to attend. With the addition of GDQ, it’s an even more appealing event, particularly for those involved in speedrunning.
Games Done Quick Coming to gamescom 2026

gamescom officially takes place from August 26th to 30th, kicking off with Opening Night Live on the 25th. While the Games Done Quick (GDQ) event won’t last the whole week, it will be a three-day marathon from August 28th to 30th. This means gamescom attendees will have many opportunities to watch speedrunners compete live on stage.
Games Done Quick (GDQ) is a wonderfully positive and consistently fun event where the world’s top video game speedrunners demonstrate their skills to a huge and diverse audience. What’s even more remarkable is that GDQ has also raised a significant amount of money for charity since it began.
For the past 15 years, Games Done Quick (GDQ) has raised over $60 million for charities such as Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It’s inspiring to see gamers uniting to support important causes, and GDQ has consistently been a leader in using video games to create positive change. At gamescom 2026, they will be fundraising for Gaming for Democracy.
Okay, so gamescom is looking even better now that GDQ is joining the fun! If you’re into speedrunning, it’s definitely worth checking out – it feels like it’s becoming a huge hub for us.
Ashley Farkas, who leads Games Done Quick (GDQ), announced they’re excited to bring a live GDQ event to gamescom in Germany. This expansion allows more speedrunners to participate, particularly those who couldn’t easily travel to events in the United States, and supports a great cause. The team sees this partnership as a significant and meaningful opportunity.
Tim Endres, Director of gamescom, also shared, “Speedrunning is incredibly popular, attracting millions of viewers globally. We’re thrilled to launch gamescom GDQ, giving European fans their first chance to see this exciting event in person. This also highlights gamescom’s role as a key hub for the gaming world and a place where people can come together for good causes.”
We’re still finalizing the games and runners, so it’s not yet clear exactly what Games Done Quick will look like at gamescom. However, you can expect a fantastic show filled with amazing speedrunning performances! We’re hoping to see some world records and personal bests broken live on stage!
