How to Farm Quartz in Subnautica 2

In Subnautica 2, Quartz is a fundamental crafting ingredient used to build a wide variety of items, including tools, electronics, base components, and furniture.

Finding quartz is important for making progress throughout the game. Fortunately, it’s a common resource if you know the best places to look. Here’s a guide to help you.

Where to Find Quartz in Subnautica 2

In Subnautica 2, you’ll primarily find Quartz growing inside Coral Domes. These large, orange, spherical formations are found in the shallow water near your starting Lifepod. The inside of each dome is hollow and glows with a bright blue light.

As soon as I started playing, I noticed these Coral Domes all over the place! They’re pretty easy to find – you just explore around your Lifepod in the shallow water, usually between 10 and 30 meters deep. There are tons of them!

Types of Quartz Deposits

There are three types of Quartz deposits in Subnautica 2:

Quartz Node Harvest Method Yield
Small Hand 1
Medium Hand 3
Large Sonic Resonator 5

Scanner Station

As a big fan of Subnautica 2, I have to say the Scanner Station is a total game-changer! Once you unlock it and build it into your base, it’ll scan for all kinds of resources – even things like Quartz – within a huge 300-meter radius. You don’t just find it though, you have to explore! I had to dive around and scan fragments of it inside the Alterra bases and those creepy Cicada wrecks to unlock the blueprint. It’s totally worth the effort though!

Best Place to Farm Quartz in Subnautica 2

Spider Dome

When you first start playing Subnautica 2, the Spider Dome is the best place to find Quartz. This large, coral-filled sphere contains almost 100 pieces of Quartz on its inside walls.

What’s great is that all the Quartz in this area comes from small, easily accessible nodes, so you can mine it all by hand. Plus, the Spider Dome is close to the surface and in a safe zone, letting you start mining it right away – no special tools or upgrades needed!

The Spider Dome is found directly above the Wander – Blackbox signal, which NoA will highlight for you as you progress through the story of Subnautica 2. It’s a large structure over a circular opening blocked by Bloom Biofilm – you’ll need a Sonic Resonator to clear it and continue. Even if you haven’t received the signal from NoA yet, you can still visit the Spider Dome and collect Quartz, as there are no obstacles preventing access.

To reach the Spider Dome from the Lifepod, turn to face it and then rotate your compass to between 240 and 245 degrees – that’s roughly halfway between southwest and west. Swim straight ahead for about 220 meters, and you’ll arrive. The Spider Dome is a large, orange coral formation with ‘legs’ that anchor it to the seafloor. Swim through any of the openings to find the Quartz inside.

Camp One

  • Requirement: Sonic Resonator

About 300 meters northeast of the Lifepod, you’ll find a large shipwreck called Camp One. It’s made up of broken-down living spaces that once housed a group of colonists. Around Camp One are several small, flat-topped rock formations that look like islands. You’ll notice purple, octopus-shaped creatures with glowing blue lights on their heads living on many of these rocks. If you see these creatures, you’ve found the right area.

You can find a lot of Quartz on and around these islands, making it a great place to collect it during the middle of the game. However, you’ll need to unlock the Sonic Resonator first, as it’s required to mine the large Quartz deposits.
