How to Get Salt in Subnautica 2

In Subnautica 2, Salt is a crafting ingredient used to make different kinds of food and technology related to Power Cells. Because Power Cells are needed to build important items like the Tadpole, Salt is essential for making progress in the game.

You won’t find Salt at the very beginning of the game, near your Lifepod, but it’s actually not too hard to get once you know where to search. Here’s how to find it.

Where to Find Salt in Subnautica 2

Okay, so Salt in Subnautica 2 is mostly found in this dead coral area way past the lava zone with the Sulfur and Gold. But honestly, it’s a long swim – like 500 meters from the Lifepod! It’s super annoying, especially if you haven’t unlocked the Tadpole yet. Good news though, I found a spot much closer to the Lifepod where you can grab some Salt early on without making that huge trek!

Location #1: Blackbox – Chap

Distance from Lifepod 232m
Direction from Lifepod SE
Depth 40m
Harvest Method Hand

You’ll first find Salt in Subnautica 2 about 200 meters southeast of your Lifepod, near where the signal for the Blackbox – Chap is located. If the game hasn’t marked this signal on your map yet, here’s how to find it.

Swim directly below your Lifepod and turn until the ‘SE’ marker is centered on your compass. Then, swim straight ahead for 200 meters and stop. Look down – if the seafloor is rusty-colored and covered in orangish-brown algae, you’ve reached the correct location.

Keep an eye out for a cave with a tall, slender spire sticking up out of the water. Close by, you’ll find an open area where a large Coral Crab is sleeping. Go inside the cave, and at around 40 meters deep, you’ll see Salt forming on the walls.

Building a Scanner Station at your base lets you immediately see the location of Salt (and other resources) within a 300-meter area, which makes it much easier to find what you need.

Location #2: Dead Coral Biome

Distance from Lifepod 500m
Direction from Lifepod SE
Depth 40m
Harvest Method Hand

You’ll find the most Salt deposits in Subnautica 2 within the dead coral biome. It’s located about 500 meters southeast of your Lifepod, beyond the lava zone. Surprisingly, you don’t need the Heat Tolerance Adaptation to reach it – you can simply avoid the worst of the heat by staying near the edge of the fog surrounding the lava area.

To get there, swim directly south from the Lifepod. After about 350 meters, you’ll reach the edge of the lava zone – you’ll notice a sudden increase in temperature. Once you’re there, continue swimming along the edge where the water is cooler until the orange fog marking the lava zone disappears. Then, turn your compass east to enter the dead coral biome.

This area is covered in the remains of coral crabs, recognizable by their bleached, white shells, partially hidden in the sand. You’ll find white coral formations everywhere, and each one is covered in numerous salt deposits that are easy to collect while swimming.

You can also find Salt scattered throughout lava biomes. However, it’s spread out, making it difficult to farm large amounts effectively.
