When exploring the far eastern areas of Subnautica 2, you’ll encounter plants glowing with heat on the ocean floor. These plants are too hot to approach; getting close will trigger a warning and ultimately be fatal.
Great news! You can explore those hot areas, but you’ll need the Heat Tolerance alien trait. Don’t worry, though – we’ve already found where to get it and have listed the locations for you below.
If you want to unlock the Heat Tolerance alien trait, you’ll need to get the Sonic Resonator. Good news – we’ve created a guide right here to help you through the process!
How to Cure Heat Intolerance in Subnautica 2
You can get the Heat Tolerance alien trait by interacting with a special pink flower – officially called a Gene Donor, and you first saw it at the beginning of the game. We’ll share the exact location below, but don’t forget to bring a Sonic Resonator with you!
After getting the Sonic Resonator, go to the Lifepod and swim in the direction of 295 degrees – that’s between west and northwest. As you get about 202 meters away from the Lifepod, look underwater. You should see an opening hidden under a layer of Bloom Biofilm.
The Gene Donor is inside the cave past that opening. If you don’t see any glowing Biofilm around the entrance, search the cave for another opening that does have Bloom Biofilm.
Point the Sonic Resonator at the white flower and fire it to destroy the strange growth and clear the way. Once you enter the cave, you’ll see a large flower, but it won’t open until you complete the following steps.
To get rid of the small, diseased growths around the Gene Donor, you need to make them bloom. Follow the path marked by the glowing flower, going through the tunnel, until you reach the Bloom Biofilm at the end.
- There should be three Biofilm flowers. Wipe them all and return to the Gene Donor.
- Now, you will spot four blossoms of Biofilm around the Gene Donor, with a hostile creature lurking in the same spot. Try to remove all Biofilm blossoms.
- There are also two Blooms on the body of the creature, but you don’t need to erase them.
Okay, so I found out something cool! Apparently, after the flowers disappear, we’ll finally learn who the Gene Donor is. And get this – if you click on that bright pink flower right in the center, you’ll unlock the Heat Tolerance ability. It’s super useful, trust me!
What’s Inside the High-Temperature Zone in Subnautica 2?
Having Heat Tolerance is really important because it lets you access valuable resources you’d otherwise miss out on – I was able to find both Sulfur and Gold thanks to it.
Sulfur and gold are valuable resources located in the hottest parts of the ocean. This area is also home to unusual plants and creatures that you can document, along with more common finds like quartz and edible fish.
Okay, so even though my character has the Heat Tolerance trait, there are still spots in this hot zone where it gets too hot. Basically, even with the trait, I can still take constant damage if I stay in those areas for too long. It’s not a complete immunity, just a buffer!
The high-temperature zone has deep, maze-like caves, so I strongly suggest making and using a Standard Air Tank before you go—you’ll really need the extra oxygen. If you can’t do that, at least bring an Air Bladder.
