In Subnautica 2, you’ll eventually need to build a new base after starting in the initial Lifepod to continue playing. Building a base is essential for creating the advanced equipment you’ll need to progress.
You can’t build larger storage lockers or crafting machines in your base, so we’ve created a guide to help you explore the ocean, find new resources, and unlock new blueprints. Read on for a simple, step-by-step guide to building a more effective base!
How to Craft a Habitat Builder in Subnautica 2
Okay, so when it comes to building a base, the Habitat Builder is seriously all you need. It lets you create everything – rooms, decorations, the works – as long as you’ve got the resources, of course. It’s super versatile!
You can build a Habitat Builder once you’ve obtained its blueprint. To get the blueprint, you need to scan two broken Habitat Builders, which you’ll find by exploring the environment.
You can find the first item at the base of the Gene Donor statue, which will give you a Digestion bonus. From the Lifepod, face roughly between north and northeast – around the 20-degree mark. Then, walk forward until you’re about 160 meters away from the Lifepod.
You can find the Gene Donor in the ocean. Look near its base for some tools, including a damaged Habitat Builder. Scanning the broken builder will give you the first piece of the blueprint.
The second one is nearby. Continue going in the same direction until you’re 225 meters from the Lifepod.
Below, you’ll notice a base built on a cliff, being held by a creature that looks like an octopus. Right on the cliff’s edge, next to a damaged platform, is a metal box. Inside this box, you’ll find a second broken Habitat Builder. Scan it, then return to the Lifepod.
You can now build the Habitat Builder! Here’s what you’ll need to craft it at the Fabricator:
- x2 Raw Titanium Ore
- x1 Glass
- Crafted using raw x2 Quartz ores in the Fabricator.
- x1 Basic Battery
- Crafted from raw x2 Copper Ore and x1 Acidic Raion Pouch in the Fabricator.
- x1 Copper Wire
- Craft it using raw x2 Copper Ores in the Fabricator.
How to Build Bases in Subnautica 2
The Habitat Builder lets you create anything you imagine – from simple tunnels and doorways to complex machines and decorations. To unlock even more building options, it’s crucial to scan everything you find and collect as many blueprints as you can.
You’ll find the best blueprints for building your base by exploring abandoned bases underwater. These bases always have items you can scan – things like chairs, wall decorations, storage, containers, lamps, and beds – which will give you the blueprints you need.
When building a base, you’ll primarily use tubes, hatches, and rooms. Hatches act as entrances and will automatically fill the base with oxygen, but only if you’ve connected it to a power source.
Solar panels are the most effective way to create power, particularly if your base isn’t located deep underwater. Their performance decreases the further they are from the surface of the water.
Almost all buildings need Titanium Ore, so it’s a good idea to collect a lot of it whenever you’re exploring.
