In Crimson Desert, you can steal from other characters (NPCs) by wearing a Mask. To pickpocket someone, you need to run into them while they’re unbalanced and then press the designated pickpocket key. The Mask is essential for any criminal activity like stealing and pickpocketing – you can’t do it without having it equipped.
How to Pickpocket in Crimson Desert
In Crimson Desert, you can pickpocket someone by getting close – either running into them or bumping them – while wearing a Mask. This will briefly throw them off balance and show you a prompt on the screen. Quickly press the pickpocket button before they recover to steal their items.
The following are the hotkeys you need to use to pickpocket on different platforms.
- On PC (Keyboard/Mouse): Run into someone by pressing Shift twice and use E to pickpocket when the prompt appears on-screen.
- On PS5 (DualSense Controller): Run into someone by pressing X and use Square to pickpocket when the prompt appears on-screen.
- On Xbox Series X/S (Xbox Controller): Run into someone by pressing A and use X to pickpocket when the prompt appears on-screen.
You can only pickpocket characters who are carrying something valuable. To check if someone has something worth stealing, shine your lantern on them. If you see a golden glow, they can be pickpocketed. The shape of the glow will tell you what they’re carrying – it could be anything from coin pouches and keys to valuable gold bars, which are a great way to earn money.
How to Get a Mask in Crimson Desert
In Crimson Desert, Masks are unique items players can equip to commit crimes such as stealing and pickpocketing. You can obtain a Mask in three different ways:
- Purchase it from a Back Alley Vendor (one can be found southeast of Hernand).
- Random drop from killing bandits.
- A reward for completing the Bounty Notice for Jeffrey.
If you get caught by the guards for a crime, they will take away your Mask.
How to Avoid Getting Punished for Pickpocketing in Crimson Desert
You won’t get in trouble for accidentally bumping into people, even guards – it’s not a crime, no matter how angry they get. The game only registers a crime when you actually pickpocket someone.
Every time you pickpocket someone, you’ll lose 5 contribution points in that area, and a red circle will briefly appear nearby to show where you committed the act.
- If you run out of the red boundary circle, no bounty will be assigned to you, and you will not face any additional repercussions.
- If you do not run out of the red boundary circle, a small bounty will be assigned to your character.
If you’re discovered committing a crime, you can remove the bounty on your head by paying the fine to a Priest at any Confessional.
