The side quest “In the Reflection” in Neverness to Everness becomes available after you unlock the scooter during the “Good Business, Better Treasure” part of Prologue II. It starts when you hear a conversation between two girls on Hankaku Street about a strange mirror. Finishing this quest unlocks the Switch Appraiser feature, allowing you to change Esper Zero’s gender in the game’s settings. If you need help, this guide will walk you through completing the “In The Reflection” quest in NTE.
How to Start in the Reflection Quest
This side quest starts in the Bridge Crossings area, close to the fountain on Hankaku Street. You’ll find two characters, an Excited Girl and an Exasperated Girl, talking about a magical mirror that can supposedly predict the future. Simply listen to their conversation to begin the quest.
You can start this quest once you’ve finished Prologue II and gotten the scooter. If you’re not seeing the characters you need, keep playing the main story until you finish the ‘Good Business, Better Treasure’ quest, then rest at the dormitory.
Here are all the objectives in this quest:
- The Vintage Shop’s Mirror
- Not a Mirror
- Could It be a Collectible?
- Owner of the Washbasin
The Vintage Shop’s Mirror
To begin this side quest, head to the fountain on Hankaku Street in the Bridge Crossings area. You’ll find two girls talking about a magical mirror that’s said to show the future. Listening to their conversation will officially start the quest.
One girl is convinced the strange thing happening with the mirror is genuine, while her friend suspects it might be a doorway to another world. This brief conversation introduces the central mystery that drives the whole adventure.
Having heard what was said, you should now go to Good Joe’s Vintage Shop. Once inside, talk to Good Joe – he says he has the famous mirror, but something about what he says doesn’t seem quite right.
It seems the shop owner cares more about profiting from people’s interest than about actually verifying the mirror’s authenticity.
Not a Mirror
As soon as you leave the Vintage Shop, you’ll overhear a conversation nearby. Two students are talking about the “Miraculous Mirror,” and they share a surprising idea: the item everyone is looking for might not be a mirror, after all.
Okay, so the game just gave me a new objective – I need to head to the Golden Apple Collection Hall in the New Herland District! It’s about 1.3 kilometers northeast of where I am now, so thankfully it looks like I can use my scooter or fast travel to get there quickly. Definitely a good thing, because walking that distance would take forever!
Once you’re inside the museum, find Dolores, the guide. When you get the chance, ask her about the “Miraculous Container.” She’ll tell you the museum doesn’t have anything like that on display right now, but she does recall a story about a peculiar washbasin linked to a similar mystery.
Could It be a Collectible?
Following my conversation with Dolores, the search now leads to the Miguel District. Our next clue suggests a grocery store owner named Kookie may have the washbasin we’re looking for.
Head west from the Golden Apple Collection Hall until you see Strange Eats, the grocery store. Go inside and speak with Kookie who’s working at the counter.
Initially, Kookie treats you like any other customer. Keep pressing her about the rumors, and eventually she’ll admit the basin exists and allow you to inspect it, but she’ll ask you not to share what you’ve learned with others.
Okay, so you’ll find what you need inside the shop. It’s a basin, and it’s over to the right, near the corner of the counter. Just go up to it and interact with it – that’ll kick off the next step in the quest!
You need to fill the basin with water before the real interaction becomes available.
Owner of the Washbasin
Once the washbasin is full of water, look at it again to see a special reflection. Instead of your character, the water shows a different version of Esper Zero – one with the opposite gender. This proves that the stories about the strange anomaly had some truth to them.
Once the cutscene ends, speak to Kookie again to finish the In The Reflection quest completely.
In The Reflection Quest Rewards
The most useful part of In the Reflection is the Switch Appraiser, which you can find in the settings menu under the ‘Other’ tab.
As a player, I was so excited to discover I can change my character’s gender whenever I want, right from the settings! And the best part? It doesn’t cost anything extra – which is awesome! I can switch things up after each day of gameplay, so it’s really fun to replay and see things from a different perspective.
Completing this quest gives you 50 Bridge Crossings Footprint Points, which contribute to completing the region.
FAQs
How does the Switch Appraiser feature work?
Esper Zero has a feature called Switch Appraiser that allows you to change your character’s gender whenever you want. Once you’ve unlocked it, you can find the option in the settings menu under the “Other” tab. Simply select “Appraiser Gender” and confirm the change. The game will then return you to the login screen, and when you log back in, your character will be the opposite gender.
Where is the washbasin located?
You can find the washbasin inside Kookie’s grocery store in Miguel District. It’s located just to the right of the counter.
Is In the Reflection quest worth doing early?
Absolutely! This quest permanently lets you customize things and doesn’t involve any fighting, making it a great early side quest to tackle.
