Hunter x Hunter is now incredibly popular in the world of anime and manga. While the story itself is captivating, many fans are especially drawn to its unique power system, Nen. Created with incredible detail by Togashi, Nen is a complex but fascinating system. At its core, it’s based on a character’s life energy, called aura. Characters with larger aura reserves have more power and can use Nen abilities more effectively. Throughout the series, certain characters have demonstrated exceptionally large aura reserves, or the story suggests they possess nearly limitless potential.

8. Beyond Netero

Beyond Netero is an enigmatic figure in the Hunter x Hunter series. While he hasn’t fully revealed his abilities yet, he’s deeply involved in the ongoing Succession Contest arc. As the son of the late Isaac Netero, it’s clear he possesses incredible power and a natural aptitude for Nen.

We haven’t seen the full extent of Beyond Netero’s abilities yet, and even his Nen type remains a mystery. However, his status within the Hunter Association and his successful journey to the Dark Continent strongly suggest he possesses incredibly powerful Nen reserves. As the story unfolds, we’ll likely see just how strong he is, potentially even surpassing Isaac in power.

7. Shaiapouf

Shaiapouf isn’t the most physically powerful of the Royal Guards, but he excels in a unique way. He’s an incredibly skilled master of Manipulation Nen. Although he didn’t have a major fight, his immense aura reserves were obvious simply because he was chosen as a Royal Guard.

Shaiapouf had an incredibly large energy reserve, and after the explosion, he generously shared some of it with Meruem. This act of selflessness greatly increased Meruem’s power, demonstrating just how immense Shaiapouf’s energy truly was.

6. Menthuthuyoupi

Youpi is the strongest member of the Royal Guards in Hunter x Hunter, purely in terms of physical power. He fought against Killua, Knuckle, Shoot, and Morel and managed to hold his own against them with relative ease. During that fight, he was even defeated by Knuckle’s special ability, Hakoware, which depleted his aura.

Knuckle has an ability where he can essentially drain someone’s life force (Aura) and put them in debt by lending them his own. However, it didn’t work on Youpi because Youpi has incredibly high Aura reserves – it would take far too long to deplete them. This is the first time Knuckle’s ability has completely failed, officially proving just how massive Youpi’s Aura really is.

5. Neferpitou

The Chimera Ant storyline in Hunter X Hunter featured incredibly powerful villains called the Royal Guard, who served as Meruem’s devoted protectors. Most fans consider Neferpitou, the first member of the Guard to be born, the strongest of them all. Neferpitou stands out due to her incredible abilities – she’s a formidable fighter and also a remarkably skilled healer, arguably the best in the series.

Like the other Royal Guards of the Chimera Ants, Pitou possesses incredibly vast nen reserves. Just sensing their power was enough to overwhelm Knov, causing a mental breakdown that forced him to abandon his mission. Pitou is an exceptionally skilled En user, capable of extending her aura over a huge range. Surprisingly, her aura actually grew after her death. When Gon killed her, she was revived with even greater nen reserves.

4. Netero

I’ve always been amazed by Isaac Netero in Hunter x Hunter. He’s reached the highest level of nen ability, and it’s clear that decades of incredibly hard training and tough fights are what got him there. He’s naturally powerful, but it’s the dedication to his training that really built up his massive aura reserves.

When Isaac Netero was at his peak, he was incredibly powerful and could defeat nearly any opponent. Even as an old man, he remained strong enough to fight against Meruem. His most powerful technique, the 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva, demanded an immense amount of energy – so much so that Killua could sense it from a great distance.

3. Adult Gon

During the Chimera Ant Arc, Gon transforms into a much more powerful form, often called ‘Adult Gon,’ when fighting Neferpitou. He achieves this by making a dangerous vow that trades all of his Nen abilities for a massive, but temporary, boost in strength, allowing him to challenge the Royal Guard. This form was so powerful, people compared him to the King, Meruem.

When Gon transformed, his power became immense, allowing him to defeat Neferpitou even after she revived with greatly increased strength. This transformation instantly gave Gon all the Nen energy he would normally accumulate over an entire lifetime, making him one of the most powerful characters in Hunter x Hunter.

2. Meruem

When people discuss the strongest characters in Hunter x Hunter, Meruem, the villain from the Chimera Ant arc, is almost always considered the most powerful. His strength is unmatched – he easily defeated Isaac Netero and even survived the devastating Rose Bomb. He actually became even stronger after the explosion, particularly after absorbing the energy of Youpi and Shaiapouf.

After absorbing the power of his Royal Guard, Meruem possessed the largest amount of aura energy of anyone seen in the series. This energy could have grown even more if he had survived. His unique Nen ability, Aura Synthesis, let him steal the Nen abilities of others, giving him potentially limitless powers and skills.

Alluka is Killua’s younger sister, and she shares her body with a strange being called Nanika, which she brought back from the Dark Continent. Nanika is incredibly powerful, potentially even stronger than immensely powerful figures like Meruem and Isaac Netero in terms of raw energy.

Alluka possesses an immense, seemingly limitless supply of aura, granting her the power to alter reality and fulfill any wish. We saw this ability when she miraculously healed Gon during the election arc. Though she hasn’t fully mastered her powers yet, the entity known as Nanika is incredibly powerful, and fans can expect to learn more about her capabilities in the future.
