LEGO Minas Tirith Set Leaves Lord of the Rings Fans Confused

As a huge Lord of the Rings fan, I have to say the new LEGO Minas Tirith set is a bit puzzling. While the set itself looks amazing, a lot of us were expecting to see all the Hobbits included, especially since LEGO seemed to be basing the design on scenes where they’re present. It’s just a little strange that they’re missing!

LEGO officially announced its impressive replica of Minas Tirith (set number 11377) on May 12th. It will be available for purchase on June 4th for $649.99. LEGO Insiders members can order it starting June 1st – three days before the official release.

LEGO’s Minas Tirith Set Contains Only One Hobbit Minifig

The new LEGO Minas Tirith set has been generally well-received, but some fans are questioning the selection of minifigures included. Many were disappointed that only one Hobbit – Pippin – is featured, leaving out Frodo, Sam, and Merry. Considering the set’s large size – over 8,200 pieces – some feel the total of 10 minifigures is low. In fact, Minas Tirith is 25% bigger than the LEGO Rivendell set, yet it includes 33% fewer minifigures. Rivendell came with 15 minifigures, including all four Hobbits.

Some Lord of the Rings fans were confused and disappointed that Frodo, Sam, and Merry weren’t included in the new LEGO set. While Minas Tirith has a long history in the Lord of the Rings stories, the set is designed to look like the city as it appears in The Return of the King, right before the big battle. Because of this, many fans thought all four hobbits should have been part of the set.

Some Fans Were Hoping for a Different LEGO Minas Tirith Gift with Purchase

Details about all the minifigures included with LEGO’s new Minas Tirith set were revealed back in late 2025, but some fans held out hope that the list wasn’t final. Some believed LEGO might release the missing Hobbit characters in a separate promotional set, perhaps recreating Aragorn’s coronation. However, LEGO has chosen a different bonus item: a Grond, the powerful battering ram used by Sauron. This free Grond set will be available for the first week of June 2026, or as long as supplies last.

While some fans are confused or disappointed by the limited selection of minifigures included with the Minas Tirith set, this seems to be a small part of the overall reaction. Even those who wanted characters like Frodo, Merry, and Sam aren’t necessarily discouraged from buying it. Most Lord of the Rings collectors are focusing on the set’s high price and large size when deciding whether to purchase it – it’s not a cheap or small set. LEGO plans to keep the Minas Tirith set in production at least until 2028, and it may stay available even longer, following the pattern of other large Lord of the Rings sets.
