Mina the Hollower: How to Complete The Duke’s Quest

I’m really enjoying Mina the Hollower, and there are tons of side quests! Some are super easy – a character will just tell you what they need, and you’re off. But others? They’re a bit of a puzzle and can take a while to figure out, which is cool, but sometimes a little frustrating!

Early in the game, you’ll meet a character called The Duke who needs your help finding his lost love. He doesn’t have any idea where she is, so it’s up to you to track her down.

Okay, so I was totally stuck trying to figure out The Duke’s whole deal in Mina the Hollower. This is basically my guide to finishing his quest – I’m sharing how I did it and what goodies you get when you’re done. Hopefully, it helps you out if you’re as lost as I was!

How to Start The Duke’s Quest

You can begin The Duke’s quest by finding and talking to him on the eastern side of the Eastern Heath. He’s hard to miss – he’s located right on the main path and is the only NPC in that area.

When you get to the location in the image, talk to The Duke. He’ll tell you what’s going on, and you can begin his quest by choosing the option to help him when he asks.

How to Complete The Duke’s Quest

You’ve accepted The Duke’s request, so he’ll start following you. Your task is to lead him to the right place, but be warned – it’s more challenging than it seems.

This can be tricky because you’ll encounter enemies, and The Duke will run if he’s hurt. If he does, remember to go back and tell him to follow you again.

The most important thing is to defeat enemies gradually, preventing them from harming The Duke. Essentially, you need to create a safe route for him to advance.

Mina the Hollower doesn’t have a map, so I’ve put together a step-by-step guide with pictures to help you find The Duke’s love.

First, you want to head south.

Then, head south on the next screen until you find the room with enemies that only have legs.

Once you reach the room with the leg enemies, head east and take the stairs north.

Now, head north, but be careful to avoid the spikes. If The Duke gets hurt, you’ll need to find him and remind him to follow you again.

Next, follow the path north, going across the red carpet on the ground.

Follow the red carpet to the room that connects to the boss’s chamber. If you haven’t challenged the boss yet, you’ll first need to activate the room by attaching the statue’s missing head. You can find the head by breaking down the wall on the west side.

Once you’ve beaten the boss and entered the next room, the Duke will open a passage in the western wall. Follow him through this new opening, and you’ll find yourself in a room with a coffin.

To finish The Duke’s quest, simply interact with the coffin a few times and tell him to get inside. Once he’s inside, he’ll reunite with his love, and you’ll receive your reward for completing the quest.

The Duke Quest Rewards

Once you finish The Duke’s quest in Mina the Hollower, you’ll receive a reward: the Proto Spark Trinket. This is a valuable upgrade you can equip to become more powerful.

The Proto Spark Trinket is a lifesaver – it lets you avoid death once, and then recharges after you die. It’s easily one of the best items in the game, and I highly recommend using it. I’ve won so many tough boss fights thanks to this trinket, so equip it as soon as you can!
