The story of My Hero Academia centers around the students in Class 1-A, all of whom dream of becoming professional heroes and using their unique abilities – called Quirks – to help people. While the class has a wide range of Quirks, roughly half of the students have what are known as Emitter Quirks. These Quirks are helpful in both battles and hero work, though some are naturally more powerful or versatile than others.
Emitter Quirks are the most frequently seen type of superpower, likely because they allow users to create, control, or change things around them. In Class 1-A, these Quirks include abilities like controlling elements or gravity, super strength, and shooting lasers. While some Quirks get more attention on screen than others, this is due to the story’s direction, not how powerful they actually are.
10. Sugar Rush
Rikido Sato’s Quirk, Sugar Rush, might seem like a powerful ability to directly control his body, similar to other impressive Quirks in MHA. However, it’s actually classified as an Emitter Quirk. When he consumes ten grams of sugar, his strength increases five times over for up to three minutes. It works with pure sugar, but also with sugary foods and anything else containing a significant amount of sugar.
Rikido’s Sugar Rush gives him incredible strength, letting him break through anything in his path and making him a powerful close-range fighter. However, there’s a downside: Rikido has low blood sugar, and using Sugar Rush actually makes him less intelligent and slows his thinking.

9. Navel Laser
All For One is considered the most powerful villain in My Hero Academia, largely due to his vast collection of Quirks, one of which was Navel Laser. He originally gave this Quirk to Yuga Aoyama, who was born without a Quirk. Yuga became a spy while attending Class 1-A, but he truly desired to be a Pro Hero and ultimately helped draw All For One into the final battle. With practice, Yuga eventually learned to control Navel Laser effectively.
As the name implies, this ability lets the user fire dazzling laser beams from their belly button. These powerful beams can travel short or long distances and are capable of cutting through even concrete and metal. The beams can be focused into incredibly thin lines or shaped like a blade of light. Beyond some minor stomach discomfort, the main drawback is that the user, Yuga, needs a special belt to maintain control over the lasers. This ability is also incredibly useful for rescues, as the beams can light up dark areas and act as a signal for help.
8. Acid
Mina Ashido might not have been featured as prominently as some of her classmates in Class 1-A, but she’s still a standout female character in My Hero Academia. Many viewers think her unusual, alien-like appearance is due to a Mutant Quirk, but it’s actually caused by her Emitter Quirk. This Quirk, called Acid, lets her create a corrosive liquid from her skin, and luckily, her body is immune to its effects.
Mina can create acid from anywhere on her body and control how strong it is, ensuring it doesn’t seriously harm others. Despite this control, the acid is powerful enough to melt through most materials, even metal. She uses it for defense, like stopping incoming attacks or creating a protective barrier around herself. Additionally, by producing a weaker version of the acid from her feet, Mina can move around more quickly and easily on the ground.
7. Electrification
Denki Kaminari’s Quirk, Electrification, isn’t considered particularly strong in its current state. If it were to evolve, it could become overwhelmingly powerful because Denki struggles to regulate the amount of electricity he generates. His Quirk allows him to build up and release electricity from his body. When he does, it creates an electrical field around him that shocks and briefly paralyzes anyone who touches him.
I’m totally fascinated by Electrification! It’s amazing, but it’s not as simple as just blasting electricity. You need some way to direct it, otherwise it just goes everywhere and can accidentally hit your friends! If you really amp up the power, though, you can take down a bunch of opponents at once, and even cancel out other electricity-based Quirks – it’s like being a human lightning rod! The biggest downside? If you push it too far and discharge a massive amount of electricity, your own brain can short circuit, leaving you super vulnerable for a full hour. It’s a huge risk, but the potential payoff is incredible!
6. Creation
Momo Yaoyorozu’s Quirk, Creation, is special because how powerful it is depends entirely on how smart she is. As a highly intelligent student and the vice class representative of Class 1-A, Momo can fully utilize Creation to build objects from her own body fat. She essentially changes the structure of her fat cells at a molecular level, and she’s able to do this because she understands exactly how those objects are built from atoms.
The Creation Quirk is remarkably useful in a fight. Its user can quickly make simple weapons, build defenses for themselves and allies, or even create things to hold opponents back. Beyond combat, Creation can also be used to produce emergency tools, medical supplies, and even strong sedatives – it was even crucial in the battle against Gigantomachia and allowed U.A. High School to become a mobile battlefield during the Final War.
5. Zero Gravity
Ochaco Uraraka is one of the most well-liked female students in Class 1-A, and she’s become incredibly skilled with her Quirk, making her a top gravity user in anime. Her ability, Zero Gravity, lets her make solid objects – whether they’re alive or not – weightless. At first, she had to touch objects with her fingertips to activate this power.
Ochaco’s Quirk, Zero Gravity, allows her to make anything she touches float. Initially, it could only lift up to three tons, but after her Quirk awakened, that limit vanished. This meant she went from being able to lift a few large robots to lifting thousands of clones of Twice simultaneously. The awakening also meant she no longer needed to physically touch an object to make it float. Zero Gravity is very effective against Villains who rely on close combat, and it’s also incredibly useful for rescue operations, letting her quickly clear debris and lift injured people to safety.
4. Dark Shadow
Fumikage Tokoyami has the head of a black bird, leading many to believe his power was a mutation. However, his ability, Dark Shadow, is actually an ‘Emitter’ type Quirk. This allows him to summon a shadowy creature from his body, making him a powerful shadow user in the anime world. Dark Shadow is strongest in the dark, but becomes much weaker when exposed to bright light.
Dark Shadow is a living being connected to Fumikage, acting as his protector and fighting for him. In darkness, it grows into a huge, incredibly strong creature capable of destroying things like trees and concrete. Even experienced villains struggle to survive a direct hit from its powerful form. Dark Shadow can also wrap around Fumikage, acting as a protective and offensive shield. Its strength is such that All For One recognized it as a serious threat and tried to steal it.
3. Explosion
Katsuki Bakugo’s Explosion Quirk is incredibly powerful – the kind of ability you’d usually expect from a villain. Luckily, he’s a Pro Hero! He creates a sweat similar to nitroglycerin, and can ignite it at will, creating explosions. These explosions range in size and force, sending out fiery shockwaves that can harm opponents. He can also use them to blast himself through the air at great speed.
Bakugo’s explosions get more powerful as a fight goes on because they’re fueled by his sweat. After fully mastering his Explosion Quirk, he can use sweat from all over his body to create stronger, more concentrated blasts. In fact, during the final battle, his explosions were powerful enough to destroy All For One’s original body – something almost no one believed possible.
2. Half-Cold Half-Hot
Shoto Todoroki’s Quirk, Half-Cold Half-Hot, is incredibly powerful and potentially one of the most destructive abilities in My Hero Academia. He can create intense heat and flames from the left side of his body, and freezing cold and ice from the right. He can use these powers individually or combine them, giving him a versatile fighting style and the ability to surprise opponents with multiple attack combinations.
Shoto’s Half-Cold Half-Hot quirk is incredibly powerful – its flames can completely burn someone to ash. However, Shoto prefers not to use it to kill. He often uses the ice side of his quirk to build defenses or trap enemies, and even to help him move around quickly. When he combines fire and ice, he creates a unique ‘cold fire’ that both burns and freezes opponents. This cold fire proved strong enough to counter Dabi’s incredibly powerful explosion.
1. One For All
One For All came about unexpectedly, and it transformed Izuku Midoriya, a boy born without any powers, into a remarkably powerful hero. Essentially, it gives the user incredible strength, speed, agility, stamina, and resilience. With One For All, Izuku was able to overcome formidable villains such as Muscular and Overhaul, and it ultimately proved vital in defeating both Tomura Shigaraki and All For One.
One For All is considered the strongest Hero Quirk because it allows the user to tap into the powers of all previous users. This grants incredible abilities like flight, creating defensive smokescreens, sensing danger, and storing immense energy. A user can also speed up objects or restrain enemies with powerful whips. With One For All, a hero can often defeat villains with a single blow and is quick enough to rescue people from dangerous situations.
