The Analogue 3D, a retro gaming system that plays classic N64 games in 4K, now has a highly requested feature: save states. This means players can now save their progress at any point. The system works with original N64 cartridges, controllers, and accessories like the Rumble Pak and Controller Pak, offering a truly authentic retro experience.
The Analogue 3D faced several delays before finally launching in 2025. Like most of the company’s products, it’s been well-received by players. However, Analogue has been slow to roll out some of the features originally promised, and fans are still waiting for the complete N64 experience.
Analogue 3D Finally Offers Save States
With the latest software update to 3DOS v1.3.0, Analogue 3D systems now include a Memory feature. This lets you save your game progress whenever you want, and it also protects your saved data from being lost if the cartridge’s battery dies. This is especially important for older games, as those batteries don’t last forever. Now, you can keep your valuable game data safe on the system.

The Nintendo Switch has an app called Nintendo Classics with a collection of older N64 games, but some of them aren’t exactly like the originals. For instance, you can’t transfer Pokémon in the Pokémon Stadium games on the Switch. That was a key feature of those games when they first came out, and it still works on the Analogue 3D system if you have a Game Boy game and the Transfer Pak accessory. Even if you only have the original Pokémon Stadium game, the Switch app’s save state feature means you won’t lose your progress, like anything you’ve achieved at Gym Leader Castle.
The Nintendo 64 was home to many beloved games, including classics like Ocarina of Time, GoldenEye 007, and Super Mario 64. While some of these are now available on Nintendo Switch Online, many others probably won’t be. Getting older games re-released is often tricky due to licensing problems, and the N64 had a lot of games based on licenses that would be costly for Nintendo to renew.
