New Survival Horror Game on Steam Is Alien: Isolation Meets Dino Crisis

A new game called Wilderdark is coming to Steam and looks like a frightening mix of Dino Crisis and Alien: Isolation. Players can try a demo this May, with the full game expected to launch sometime in the second half of 2026.

Team Junkfish, a game studio from Scotland established in the early 2010s, recently released Wilderdark. They previously created three other games: the procedurally generated horror game Monstrum (2015), the turn-based strategy game Attack of the Earthlings (2018), and the Prohibition-era roguelite Bootleg Steamer (2024).

Wilderdark Announced with a Tense Trailer

Team Junkfish recently revealed Wilderdark, their fourth game, a terrifying first-person survival horror experience. It takes place on a remote, overgrown dinosaur island overrun by strange parasites that are twisting the plants and animals. Players will explore the island as a character searching for a cure to achieve immortality, and clues about previous expeditions – including one led by their own parents – that vanished in the dense jungle. A suspenseful trailer announced the game, with a planned release sometime in 2026.

What Wilderdark Has in Common with Alien: Isolation

From what we’ve seen so far, the game Wilderdark seems to take inspiration from Alien: Isolation, especially in how you actually play it. Instead of fighting dinosaurs constantly, the game focuses on the fear of being hunted. This means you’ll need to be stealthy, carefully manage limited supplies, explore your surroundings, and craft items – all creating a consistently tense and scary survival experience that fans of Alien: Isolation will probably enjoy.

What Wilderdark Has in Common with Dino Crisis

Wilderdark shares a lot of similarities with the game Dino Crisis, mainly in its setting. Both feature a dangerous island filled with dinosaurs, a story revolving around a scientific puzzle, and gameplay focused on surviving and collecting samples. While Wilderdark has these elements, it seems to focus more on the frightening aspects of a damaged ecosystem than the Dino Crisis games. Also, playing from a first-person view makes the dinosaurs feel even more massive and threatening.

Wilderdark Steam Demo Launching May 7

Considering it’s planned for release sometime in 2026 and doesn’t have a specific date yet, Wilderdark will probably come out in the latter half of the year. This would be a first for developer Team Junkfish, whose previous three games were all released in the first six months of the year. You can already add Wilderdark to your Steam wishlist, and a demo will be available on May 7th. Currently, Wilderdark is set to be the second dinosaur horror game of 2026, following Code Violet, which received negative reviews and was only released on PlayStation 5 in January. As of now, Wilderdark is only confirmed for PC.
