Nintendo Switch Online Adds 5 More Games for Subscribers

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members can now enjoy five more classic games! The service recently added titles like Jack Bros., V-Tetris, and Space Invaders Virtual Collection to its library of retro games.

Nintendo regularly adds a rotating selection of classic games for Nintendo Switch Online members to enjoy through the Nintendo Classics app. While games from systems like the NES, SNES, and Game Boy are included with a standard Switch Online subscription, access to games from consoles like the Virtual Boy and N64 requires the optional Expansion Pack upgrade. The last update to Nintendo Switch Online, in early April, added Pac-Man, Mendel Palace, and The Tower of Drauga to the NES app.

The Virtual Boy: Nintendo Classics App Now Has 14 Total Entries

Nintendo Switch Online subscribers now have access to five more Virtual Boy games, bringing the total playable lineup to 14. The Virtual Boy: Nintendo Classics app has been updated with Jack Bros., V-Tetris, Space Invaders Virtual Collection, Virtual Bowling, and Vertical Force. Jack Bros. is a spin-off from Atlus’ Megami Tensei series, where players control three demons—Jack Frost, Jack Pumpkin, and Jack Skelton—in a race against the clock. For those wanting familiar games, V-Tetris offers classic Tetris gameplay with some new level design elements. Space Invaders Virtual Collection features direct ports of the original Space Invaders and Space Invaders Part 2.

Space Invaders Virtual Collection lets players compete in time and score attack modes. As the name suggests, Virtual Bowling simulates tenpin bowling, but mastering the timing of its unique gauge system is key to winning. Vertical Force is a classic shoot-em-up where you destroy enemy spaceships. Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members need to download the newest Virtual Boy app update before they can play these games.

Nintendo recently added Virtual Boy games to its Nintendo Switch Online service with a release on Mario Day, including titles like Mario’s Tennis and Mario Clash. But to play these games on either the Switch or the upcoming Switch 2, you’ll need more than just the $50 annual NSO + Expansion Pack subscription. You also have to buy a special Virtual Boy headset for $99.99 or a cardboard version for $24.99 from the Nintendo Store. The headset lets you insert your Switch or Switch 2 to play the games using its lenses, while the cardboard version offers a more affordable way to play. Without one of these, you won’t be able to experience Virtual Boy games on Nintendo’s latest consoles.

Even though five new games have been added for the Virtual Boy, Nintendo still has a few more in store for collectors. Games like D-HOPPER and ZERO RACERS will be released later in 2026. Despite the Virtual Boy being seen as one of Nintendo’s less successful consoles, the company is still using the Switch Online service to keep its history alive.
