PlayStation 5 Consoles Are Getting More Expensive in the US
The PlayStation 5 was released towards the end of 2020, priced at $500 for the standard model and $400 for the digital edition without disc drive. Unlike previous consoles which typically experienced price drops throughout their lifetimes, the PS5 has not followed this trend so far. On the contrary, there have been price increases in various regions over the past few years. For instance, the Slim Digital Edition that came out in late 2023 saw a $50 price hike. Last year, Sony attributed the lack of price decrease to the complexity of reducing the die size of the PS5’s chipset, and this challenge persists today.
